Billboard is reporting that, for the first time in a decade, the Kirkwood brothers are reunited to record a new Meat Puppets album.

Curt Kirkwood had this to say about the record:

I've got the album written already. I'm going to record it on my own and then see who wants to put it out. It's epic. It's big Meat Puppets stuff. I would say 'sonic pyramids made out of garbage.' I honestly think these are good songs. I played some of them for [Cris] over the phone yesterday. I don't think this is going to be some sort of 'toss off' album.

His brother Cris has had a tumultuous few years, with the most recent his 2004 sentence of 21 months in prison for attacking a security guard with a baton outside a post office in downtown Phoenix.

The revitalized lineup will include Primus drummer Tim Alexander who will be filling in for original Meat Puppets drummer Derrick Bostrom who was asked to participate but has apparently declined.

Formed in 1980, the Meat Puppets released a slew of discs - including the classic, Meat Puppets II - on a number of labels including SST, Atlantic and most recently Rykodisc. The band achieved mainstream success after Kurt Cobain of Nirvana invited Cris and Curt to join him on tour and then on MTV for acoustic performances of three tracks from Meat Puppets II.
