Joe Escalante takes over Indie 103 morning show

Joe Escalante of Kung Fu Records and the Vandals has become the new permanent host of Indie 103.1's morning show. Joe's new show will air in the Los Angeles area on Monday thru Friday from 6 to 10 am, Pacific Standard Time. He will also continue to host his "Barely Legal" advice show, which airs on Indie on Fridays at 11 am.

The morning spot on the station was previously occupied by Dicky Barrett. Barrett was popular in the position but fired this past March, resulting in a public spat between the Mighty Mighty Bosstones frontman and the station's management.

Indie boasts a number of punk personalities in its ranks, including 22 Jacks / SideOneDummy's Joe Sib, Black Flag's Henry Rollins, and Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols.

Joe is a total dirtbag who has plagiarized work from the early Vandals albums and failed to pay royalties to the tune of almost $250,000, according to Soundscan records.

I have none of those "HE's da rapublikan...fux tha government" concerns.
That being said:
You can't expect to replace Dicky Barret and not get some backlash. It seems (as Joe already had a show on the station) he sides with Indie 103.1 rather than Barret. This can only be settled in a cage match.

It's true...They simply write on the screen using sharpies.
But I get so sick of reading "Whatever, he's a republican douchebag" everytime Joe's name gets brought up. I'd rather people find a valid reason to dislike someone other than simply their party affiliation (esspecailly someone who is in a fairly non-political band).

i agree. i don't hate republicans nearly as much as i hate conservatives. and there is definetly a big difference.

generally somebody as educated as a lawyer has a pretty good understanding of what the Republican party (is supposed to) stand for (i.e. small government etc.)

to me, its the small minded, religious conservatives that are scary. and i don't think the vandals, or joe, really stand for anything like that.

also the sharpies thing was really funny.

They have some great songs. They could never really pull off a great album, but they do have some great songs in there. A "best of" comp. would convert a non believer. That is unless you have a sense of humour. If not then the Vandals will never be for you.

I think it is funny that he gives legal advice but he hasn't practiced law for probably 10 years. He still hasn't paid a lot of his bands royalties from the demise of his label (its not officially dead, but it has no money and hasn't paid shit out.) He also is a complete prick and sounds like shit on the radio. On top of it all he loves George Bush, he is far from being a Mexican and he is a wannabe Brett Guerewitz.
