Legendary hardcore act Negative Approach has been added to Touch and Go Records recently announced 25th Anniversary Block Party.
The band will be performing with original members John Brannon and OP Moore, along with Harold Richardson (Easy Action) and Ron Sakowski(ex-Laughing Hyenas and Easy Action). The party will take place on September 8, 9 and 10. All of the profits from the ticket sales will be donated to three Chicago organizations: Tuesday's Child, Literacy Works, and the Thomas Drummond Elementary School. The party will feature bands both past and present from the roster to celebrate the event. Artists already announced include Ted Leo + the Pharmacists, Didjits, Shellac, Pinback, The Black Heart Procession and many more. Founded in 1981 in Lansing, Michigan and Maumee, Ohio, Touch and Go soon found itself at the center of the Detroit punk scene of the early 80s. Early records by classic punk bands Negative Approach, The Meatmen, and the Necros quickly put Touch and Go and the growing Detroit hardcore scene into the national spotlight. Today, the band also announced the immediate availability of Motor City Rock'n'Roll's NEgative Approach DVD. The disc includes early live gigs plus bonus footage taken from the last ever MISFITS show with Glenn Danzig as they backup John Brannon performing his own hardcore classic "Can't Tell No One". You can check out a review of the band's 1992 discography release, Total Recall. Touch and Go Records (48 comments)

They really should play one west coast date! I don't care where, as long as it's closer than Chicago.

Wow........Negative Approach are really gonna stand out (in a great way) with this line-up. Imagine watching Ted Leo then all of a sudden seeing one of the hardest bands of all time come launching onto stage. Nothing! NOTHING!!!! DIE!

Weird, I heard that Brannon became a totally useless hardcore junkie. And the asshole who runs Touch and Go needs to fucking put the past behind him put the good Necros record back in print. Some of the most important punk music of the midwest has been lost to his pissy antics. 3+ Replies

negative approach is the shit, but that's slightly sketchy that it's only half the original band. i'd still pay to see it though. 2+ Replies

It's a shame all the parties are 21+. Negative Approach right in front of my nose and I'm less than a year too young to see it. 2+ Replies

Wow, thats amazing. Wish I could see them... NA are one of the best and only true hardcore bands from that era... Hardcore... meaning hybrid of thrash and punk... or something, but definitely not this "bangs in your face, pink eye shadow, 0 gage ear stretch gargabe" you see around now... haha. Highly recomend purchasing the Total Recall CD to everyone... 1+ Reply

I saw Easy Action when they first got started after the Hyenas fell apart. My buddy Jon joined the band pretty early on and was stoked so I went. Jon Brannon's heroin habit was pretty famous by this point and no one, myself included, thought this was a good career move for our friend. I turned out to be right. All they did was cover NA and Cheap Trick songs, badly. It was sad. They've since written some new material, but it's never grabbed me. Oh and my friend ended up with a herion habit of his own and came close to losing his life on at least one occasion. He swears he never shot junk with Brannon, but he certainly looked up to him. I'd sooner see The State (who are playing together again) than NA at this point in my life. 1+ Reply

I wonder why the McCulloch brothers aren't playing. I think Rob still lives in Michigan. 3+ Replies

I'd buy that for a dollar... Sounds like Brannon is pretty psyched about the DVD release. Join the NA myspace page and you will get a very enthuastiatic welcom when you get added as his friend.
