The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza lose practice space to fire

According to the Corrosive Recordings website, the Tony Danza Tapdance Extravanganza's practice space has burned down. The label released the following statement:

As many already know the Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza's practice space caught on fire and burned to the ground. About $15,000 worth of gear was destroyed yet the guys will still continue with their July and August tours as scheduled. If you would like to donate to the band please send to their paypal account - ttdtemerch@gmail.com

The band will be on tour with Lye By Mistake throughout July, followed by a two month tour with Psyopus finishing up in late September.

i hate when bands do this shit. ask people to buy your cds and shirts and come see you on the road to try to get money. give the people something in return for giving you their hard earned money. this whole paypal account crap is no better than heading out to the streets asking for change.

Being in a fulltime band is allready living on existenceminimum, so unforseen incidents is hell, because quite simply, you do not have enough spare money to get back on track.

i've seen things happen to friends bands and they just asked that people buy their cd if they downloaded it and buy shirts either online or at their shows and they came out of it fine. i mean let it die's van died in the middle of a tour and they managed to work it out. it just makes more sense to me for the bands to if nothing else try to get some t-shirts made and say "hey, if you donate 20 bucks to help us get back on our feet we will give you a special limited t-shirt" or something

once again, the unexperienced speak. i dont know if TDTE has insurance or not, but every time something happens to a band (theft, fires) everyone screams "insurance, you stupid fucks!" id like to pose the question: have any of you actually tried to file a fire/theft claim with one of the few companies that still insure equipment for working bands? do any of you have the slightest inkling of how hard they make it to actually see any money? do you know the reason why so many people hate insurance companies and place them at the top of the 'evil industry' list? these companies gladly take your premium payments, month in and month out, but when it comes time for them to actually reimburse you for anything...good luck.

this is a rant, but just because you have insurance...that dosent mean youre actually "covered". usually it just means that when your band gets

Agreed. I worked for Geico, its not difficult, or that expensive, at all. ESPECIALLY ON A PRACTICE SPACE. Most renter's insurance policies will cover it.

try even getting insurance as a band for something like your van. you can't, its unaffordable to get insurance as a company on a commercial vehicle. it requries liscensing and fees that a band cant afford. and yes, my own band had geico auto insurance and in order to settle our claim on a 15,000 $ repair (on a 16,000$ van which they didn't choose to total out) took 6 months repair time.

insurance is never simple. its always a fight, and you always dont get what you had before the incident. not to mention most touring bands cant afford to actually get anything besides exactly what theyre using

if you have a catastrophe, and have to come up with 10,000$ overnight tob uy new gear, do you honestly think a band can print up "limited edition tshirts" for this event? where is the cash up front to fund these limited edition tshirts going to come from

Most bands dont have insurance because most bands cant afford insurance. It's that simple, eat or insure, put out the ep or insure, pay rent on the practice space or insure, hell pay rent on your shitty aprtment or insure, fill the tank so we can drive to the show or insure. Unsigned bands as well as bands on indies dont have the luxury of this sort of thing. How fucking hard is it for you folks to understand, bands live hand to mouth. If you really want to help out your local band, tip the guy that bags your groceries.

i'm really sorry this happened to this band, but asking other people for cash to help them out is ridiculous and i really dont think this stuff should be posted on here. when my house got robbed i didnt start up a fund asking for donations, so i see no reason why i should give these guys 1 cent.

You guys are assholes. They said "if you would LIKE to donate to the band..." They're aren't asking for money. They're saying if you're willing to donate to help them out, then here's how you do it.

first of all, this happened a few weeks ago. The band told people about it, but never asked for money. This particular press release was put out by the band's label yesterday, and in this case the label asked for donations. Don't shit on the band.

for a website that caters to people who appreciate/understand the punk or diy ethos, it sure does have a large percentage of people who post on it and have no appreciation for the punk/diy lifestyle and what it involves.

i saw a similiar thread on lambgoat about when the drummer from The Classic Struggle fell from a tree in Nashville and injured his head and was put into a coma without medical insurance. the band asked for people to donate for medical bills and people were like, WTF INSURANCE NOOB.

seriously man, touring bands live in lifestyles that dont include things like health insurance, proper nutrition, having a place to live because THEY CANT. because in the last 2 years gas prices have almost doubled, the average label advance only covers a recording budget, and live show prices have stayed the same, as have guarantees, as have the average price

as a result most bands operate at a loss on tour. you operate at a loss for a couple years in order to get yourself well enough established to get a big enough live guarantee to actually afford to eat on. u sleep on other peoples couches every night, and you hope they feed you, or the venue feeds you, or else you have to wait for some good luck in order to be able to eat.

the amount of suffering you have to put up with to make your own music and put it out on independent label and go on the road and tour is far below the quality standards most people attribute in their life to good health and other such things you take for granted behind your keyboard.

people who dont understand or support punk or diy ethos, who dont want to go outside the normal system to help their friends in these bands make it through the unbelievable tough times that they have, have no business reading a site like this, or listening to those type of bands. your ignorant to the culture and have no place in it. the fact that people can say things like that and not be totally outcasted from the society, unwelcome at shows, etc, is gross in and of itself.

if you think your favorite band should never have to fundraise to make it on tour, then swing by mtv.com, where all the bands do not have to fundraise to tour. at least not until their 23, and the system spits them out lower than where the bands in the punk system live, lifestyle wise.
