The lineup of performers for Wakestock 2006 have been announced. Held on Toronto Island August 10th-13th, the fest will feature over 40 bands on three stages.

I don't know... I'd really like to see the Cons again soon but I think I'll wait till they play a show of their own. A nice long set in a small club sure beats a short set outdoors in front of an unnapreciative crowd of Edge 102.1 listeners.

The new Rise Against and Good Riddance albums left a lot to be desired. Mediocore? Yes, I believe so.

The new Rise Against was really great for me the first time I listened.

But now, a couple weeks later, I can't really stand it.

Maybe it just wears off quickly or maybe I was only initially impressed because Siren Songs of the Counterculture was such horseshit and I was relieved that this was better.

I liked it on Punk Goes Acoustic. And then I kept hearing it when Siren Song came out and it got old. I'm sure many people can attest to this. You KNOW you liked it before it got popular.

So women getting plastic surgery and/or wearing really trashy shit has always bugged the hell out of me,

But I'm a firm believer that it's important to, in a society where women are made to feel ugly and fat by media, make sure women feel good about themselves. Despite that, I've always felt that surgery and dressing like a slut aren't good things to do to achieve that confidence, but I've never been able to articulate why without rambling.

Tonight I figured it out: Because the only thing more important than feeling good about the way you look is knowing that looks aren't all-important.

Surgery/looking like a whore demonstrate a complete lack of understanding in that regard.

Discuss.

Interesting how you say it's important for us guys to make sure that women feel good about themselves, like they won't if we don't give them some kind of validation. You should reflect on that and realize that that statement in itself is patriarchal.

I don't mean it's important for us to compliment or validate them. Only that, in an abstract, it's important that they be allowed their vanities, since we set such a high standard for them in the first place.

And, I guess, in one sense, if you broke it you bought it, right? And if you're going to generalize about patriarchy, we definitely fucking broke it, so maybe we should try to fix it.

I'm sure lots of high schoolers will appreciate being fucked out of a good college because they were randomly assigned a bitchy essay grader while their dumbass classmate writes a load of shit, gets an easy grader and receives a near perfect score

The essay is not actually that subjective cause they're looking for specfic things like a literary reference and if you have that you'll get a at least a 5 on it

You've gotta be kidding me. Did you not see the Newsweek and Time stories that blew the lid off of the essay?

It's graded entirely on stylistic and grammatical elements. It does not have to be factually accurate.

They published essays that said things like "As the Civil War came to an end in 1592," but that were written in good form that got perfect scores alongside factually correct but stylistically lacking pieces that were harshly judged.

Literary reference my ass.

Ruth's Hat is pretty fun live. I remember playing a show with them a few years back with no clue what to expect and it was literally like Buddy Holly on speed, then the singer punched himself in the balls a few times, then they broke out into "Desperado".
