Social Distortion recording a new album

Long running Orange County punk band Social Distortion have begun work on the follow up to their 2004 full length Sex, Love and Rock'n'Roll.

Frontman Mike Ness talked about the album in a recent interview:

The last record had a lot of songs about love and loss, maybe this record I want to be different... but I don't want to give it away... Every record you want better than the last one and a little different. I'm not sure of the direction yet honestly

The band recently unveiled dates for a Fall tour set to kick off in late September. They are currently on a summer tour with Supersuckers and Manchester's Nine Black Alps.

no, not exactly the same. There is just not a huge departure in their sound like say, a band like afi has. but honestly whatever, they found a formula and it seems to work for them so im not complaining.

Yeah, but that's different, because a band like AFI sold the fuck out. Social Distortion has progressed into the band they were always meant to be. It may not exactly be the punkest sound, but I have a feeling this album will be as fantastic as Sex, Love promised.

honestly, i'm still up in the air about afi. They definetly had a different sound from their beginning before they signed to a major. but with all the hot topic exclusives and bullshit merchandising, i'm not sure where i stand. the same goes for social d's $30 ticket prices. anyway, i still respect them and will probably get their new album anyway.

I agree SD gets boring after a few songs. The only thing cool about a SD show is the chicks! Sd's old stuff from Mommys Little Monster and 1945 EP are great and thats when they were a fun band to see. Now its getting kind of slow.

thats exactly how I feel. Theyve lost their touch and creativity, now theyre just dragging it out. I guess if you love music and you somewhat succesful from a certain formula, you might as well milk that shit while you can.

i don't really see what you mean, i think sex, love, and rock and roll is an amazing cd. i've yet to hear something by them that i don't like. it's been awhile, but i still think it sounds creative. but that's just me

If you are refering to me, you need to wake up. I have been going to SD shows since 1980. My band actually opened up for them in 82. And they were better when punk was punk. Not some little lets go to the show and color our hair event. Then the next day you are not a punker. I like there old stuff more and there shows were better back then, because they were not so tame like how they are now. They are corporate rockers now. I wouldnt even call them punk I would call them a rock band.

They played a new song ("Diamonds in the Rough") when I saw 'em last October. I don't know whether it's from this new album, but it didn't really sound like a new direction. It sounded like it could've been on Sex, Love, and Rock 'n' Roll.

1945 is one of my favourite Social Distortion tunes, but Prison Bound is the weakest, but the title track is one of their finest songs. My list is:

That is the worst album and by far the worst tour!!! Ness was a stuck up prick he even had a cut out of himself on stage from the cover of that LP and he kept telling people during the set they were not a punker dunker band anymore so fuck him!!! That was for the Manic Hispanic single when they covered "Mommy's Little Monster". The last time I seen Social D they sucked bad!!! Charlie is a shit drummer!!! They need a better drummer period!!! I don't if I would ever go see them again after that lousy gig!!! If you young folk had see them from Prison Bound till the last LP you would think the same see ya the old punker.
