As an addendum to our story about the performances which will close out the legendary CBGB venue, the final ever performance, by Patti Smith will be broadcast exclusively by Sirius satellite Radio.
The famed club is closing following unsuccessful rent negotiations with its landlord. News of its demise has prompted worldwide press coverage and sparked several campaigns to save the musical landmark. Tickets to the October 15 final show with Smith were sold out in 8 minutes, according to CBGB's founder and owner, Hilly Kristal. Tonight is the second of three nights featuring performances by the reunited Bad Brains. The pioneering punk act will be joined by the Bouncing Souls this evening. The Talking Heads get a tribute show on Thursday, followed by the Dictators on Friday and Saturday. Saturday will also feature an acoustic performance by Blondie members Debbie Harry and Chris Stein. As previously reported CBGB will relocate to Las Vegas in the near future, but whether that venture captures the spirit of the original remains to be seen. CBGB opened in December of 1973, and was a crucial part of the scene that gave birth to the Ramones, Television, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, Blondie, the Talking Heads and many others. Only when this club is closing do they bring any bands people actually care about.

I'd love to be at any one of these shows. Every night seems fantastic, and I'm sad never to have been to a show at CBGB despite being born in New York. Shame about how this is ending. 2+ Replies

Anyone who doesn't have Sirius, I suggest you really get it. XM is so lame and atleast Sirius has a ton of punk and underground programing AND HOWARD STERN!!! Amazing investment indeed. 3+ Replies

Did anyone see Angry Samoans at CBGBs like a month ago? That would have been fun.

does anyone know how/where to get a promo code to have a better chance to logging on for the 3 day free trial at Sirius? (I signed up before to listen to Patti at the Bowery on NYE 2004.)
