Slayer to visit US troops

Provocative thrash/metal act Slayer has announced plans to visit a US Air Force base in Germany in between dates on their European tour.

The band, whose latest release,Christ Illusion deals with the brutality of war and religions fanaticism, scrutinizing America's role in Iraq and Afghanistan, will spend a couple of hours meeting and chatting with the soldiers, signing autographs, and possibly viewing a fighter aircraft or two.

Upon returning home just before Thanksgiving, Slayer will take the holidays off and then launch a headlining tour of the U.S. Dates are still being confirmed and will be announced shortly, but the intended cities for the tour include dates in the US and Canada.

I hope Fox News or some other right-wing media gets a hold of this. I'm sure they wouldn't be happy to see Slayer bringing their satanic brand of metal to the American soldiers. Why, it'd be a threat to national security!

I am not in agreement with the Iraq war, but I would just like to clarify that one can support their nation's troops, without supporting the war they've been sent to fight in.

No fuck the man that sent them there. Some of those people deserve more respect than anyone. Fucking ignorant statement. They sign up to put their lives on the line for this country so that you can live the life you do sitting on your fucking ass, getting fucked up, doing nothing, and sitting on here(not that I don't do the same) but have some respect for the people willing to die for it since you aren't, because it's not their fault they are where they are. Why because I actually talked to people involved and effected? Or that you have no way to argue with the fact that actual soldiers who have fought for this asshole say they don't agree with him, they don't like him, but he is their commanding officer so they have to jump when he says jump and never ask why. That report seems like they didn't determine anything other than politically it's mixed, and that yes they do what he says but there is a large group that even though they are killing people because they are being ordered to they don't agree or think it is just. Plus come on a christian news site? They are going to lean way to the right on their reports, but it's more than i came up with. But again i was just going off of direct word of mouth from soldiers who have been multiple times and some who came back from their first trip. None like him or agreed with him just supported it because that is their job and he is their boss.

Disagreeing with the cause and still killing people is even worse. Fuck the troops. No, I don't wish harm on anybody, but when I think of the people in Iraq who deserve a lot of sympathy for their situation, it's not the guys who were sent over there with guns and explosives. I agree that those are the ones people should be caring about. That wasn't what this was about. Think of it this way , fine fuck the troops, get rid of them all. Then when something happens where we need troops are you gonna jump up and fight? NO. We have to have an army, but we don't have to use them like we do, because if we didn't we would be in a lot worse place because when the day came that say anybody came to try to take us on they would win because we would have no army. That isn't why they all sign up but that is their duty after they sign up. Most join because they are poor and it is an opportunity to get an education and a future. You're right the ones that sign up to kill and psycho's. But wouldn't you want that to be the people risking their lives so they aren't here killing innocent people use their psychotic tendencies to our advantage when needed. I also know plenty of people in the military who are completely against all this shit. There is a combination of left wing, right wing, and no wing people in the military. Just like in the civilian sector.

What are they protecting you from? Getting drafted and sitting next to them in a HUMVEE that's getting bombarded with who-knows-what.

This is very similar to the Vietnam conflict. We are there not in the interest of the general public, but so someone (or a lot of someones) can get rich. Just be glad you're not being drafted to fight someone else's war. Think about it.

Excuse me, but the army has always been overwhelmingly pro-war. In 2004, the vast majority of army votes went to Bush- as usual, since the nature of those who think sacrificing their individual worth in order to have the illusion of protecting their country is definitely going to be more rightwing. I'm not saying lots of guys don't see it as a job or that there are no leftists in the army, but even though dissent is growing, it has a ways to go before it even touches 35-40% of the armed forces.
