More than 36 artists appear in the first video from Johnny Cash's final album.
There are 36 cameos throughout the black & white video, including Iggy Pop, Bono, Justin Timberlake, Jay Z, Keith Richards, Johnny Depp, Dixie Chicks, Terrence Howard, Patti Smith, Dennis Hopper and Chris Rock. Each artist is dressed in black to honor Cash. The video was directed by Tony Kaye and the video concept was created by Kaye, Justin Timberlake, Rick Rubin and Mark Romanek, who directed Cash's award-winning video "Hurt." I went to the Kiss farewell tour back in 2000 and I ended up sitting next to Justin Timberlake and the rest of N-Sync, point being, I don't think Justin TImberlake likes Kiss, Johnny Cash or any of the other stuff he pretends to like, I think his "people" advise him to get involved in projects like this and attend a plethora of shows to "broaden" his musical horizons and make the public think that he listens to something other than Michael Jackson, Milli Vanilli and the New Kids on The Block. You're not fooling anyone! 5+ Replies

HAH. bono with the fucking angel's wings. always with the fucking self-important messianic bullshit, even in a video made to honor another artist. 2+ Replies

Why would you start off the cameo list by explaining that Iggy Pop is in the video, follow it with a slew of people (aside from Patti Smith) that most of us don't give a damn about, and top all of this off by omitting Mick Jones? 3+ Replies

why don't you all shut the fuck up. these people are in this video because they probably have respect for johnny cash and what he did. and i'm sure 50% of the people on this fucken board didnt give a shit about johnny cash or knew who he was until 3 years ago 5+ Replies

You people don't get it. This is actually a parody of the Me First and the Gimme Gimme's video for I Believe i Can Fly. Only this one had a bigger budget.

What a terribly lame video for such a great artist. Some of these artists seem like they have no relevance in being this video (particularly Jay Z and Justin Timberlake, neither of whom seemed to have any Cash influence and make sub-par music), while others seem sort of lost (like Keith Richards... but I think that's always the way he seems). 5+ Replies

About three or four decent artists among a whole boatload of hacks, posers and fakes.....great!
SuperRad (November 11, 2006)
I just want to say that's the worst fucking video I've ever seen. Holy shit, is this really happening?

This is like one of those lame 80's "Say No To Drugs" music videos sponsered by Reagan. I'm not saying Cash was in ANYWAY related to that....this video just turns out looking lame like that, with trendy celebrity guests looking really stupid. 1+ Reply

cash's fifteen minutes are up... whats the big deal with this guy, anyway? he didnt write his own songs and he wasnt that good at playing other peoples. this guy blows. if you want to hear some good folk/country checki out townes van zandt, a dude who wrote all his songs and a lot of other peoples too. 2+ Replies

what better way to honour johnny cash, then to put as many celebrities in a video as you can 1+ Reply

You know, Aubin, it might be a good idea to have the name of the song somewhere in the article.

Yes. A montage of celebrities who will never need to spend a day wondering how they'll find the money to eat really fits Johnny's songs of spite and revenge for the common man. 2+ Replies

Justin Timberlake grew up in Tennessee and grew up listening to Johnny Cash. Simply because his music does not reflect that, does not mean that he should be mocked or ridiculed for being in the video. In other words, Timberlake has listened to Cash his whole life while most of you simply own the Walk The Line soundtrack and act like experts.
