Lookout Records set to release Vinyl Vault Series

Lookout Records has announced that they will digitally release titles from their catalog that are either rare or out of print. They will feature bands like Pot Valiant, Gene Defcon, Skinflutes, Common Rider, The Splash Four, and much more. Volume 1, containing Skinflutes, Fun Bug, The Lookouts and Wat Tyler is out now and available here.

That's just because they still have it in stock. When something goes out of print, it's not like all the copies in the marketplace are called back and destroyed; but after they're all sold, that's it.

Ah, I thought it was like "Yeah, don't even think about selling our shit anymore". I know when the Green Day thing happened those two albums weren't on Interpunk as of, like, the day after; the Op Ivy disc was actually not on Interpunk for a bit after the fall out with Lookout! so when I saw it back I was like, "Oh?".

i dont think you can get "energy" now, but theres a self titled compilation with pretty much the same artwork, and its got the whole of energy, the hectic ep, and two songs from a flipside compilation on it. pretty much all their recorded output, not counting the numerous bootlegs available.

So many bands have taken their music off Lookout records there's not much left for them to sell except by pulling old stuff out of the vaults to sell online.

Umm my point wasn't that bands are greed fuckers for pulling their albums off of Lookout... my point was Lookout are a bunch of jerks for not paying their artists and now they have nothing left except the stuff that they're now pulling out of the vaults.

I'm saying it won't be long before those artists go "hey, are you guys going to pay me for my songs that you're now putting online?"

I wouldn't say that the guys from lookout! are dicks. They're just not very business savy. They took all of the money they were making from other artists and using that money to make new albums from different bands. I assume this is common in the world of independent record companies. The only problem is all of their new stuff has sucked and they were losing money, not having enough to pay the bands. They didn't set out with the intention to fuck the band over, that's just what happens when you run a record label and you don't know what you're doing.

Not being "business savvy" is no fucking excuse to let them off the hook. I think it's really shitty that a label like Lookout is going under just because the people running it are fucking irresponsible. The beautiful thing about this is the irony of their demise. They turned their backs on the music that made them a great independent label and in the end those bands ended up being the proverbial nails in the coffin.

Whether it was deliberate or not, they still fucked up, and still didn't pay their artists thousands and thousands of dollars.
It has nothing to do with the stuff they've put out in recent years, either. A label with any common sense is going to pay artists what they are due, and use their own profit to keep the label going.

You don't seem to know a whole lot about Lookout! It hasn't been the same ever since Larry Livermore was running things. After he stepped down (due in large part because of Screeching Weasel suing him) did Chis started running the company. Chris started selling bullshit whever he took over because that's the kind of music he likes. Chris is more of a hippie, pussy kind of guy and didn't pay any attention to what would make him money, just putting out the music he liked. He is a douche but not for the reason you think.

Yes it was and yes it is. Only four songs were recorded for an EP (which I believe you can still get on iTunes). It sounds a little like a cross between Crimpshrine and Op Ivy and definitely better than Common Rider.

Lookout is dead. They died when Green Day, Screeching Weasel, and the Queers took their music off the label. When I think of Lookout! Records, I think of Operation Ivy, Green Day, Mr. T Experience, the Queers, Fifteen, Crimpshrine, and Screeching Weasel. When the most famous acts (Green Day, the Queers, Screeching Weasel, and possibly Op Ivy) you know you might as well call it quits. No one wants to hear the bullshit they put out now.

I wish they would do a complete retrospective of Corrupted Morals on CD - the "Chet" 5-song, along with "Big Cheese" and anything else they've got lying around... Great band.

Oh, and Big Rig is awesome, like everything else Jesse Michaels has ever done.

It looks like some Crimpshrine records are out of print too (Duct Tape Soup is listed as "out of print" on the Lookout website). Any word on if they'll be re-pressed or where those will end up?

i can't believe only one other person has mentioned the Downfall album.

This series will only be worthwhile if that album is released. Screw BigRig and Common Rider, release the DOWNFALL record!
