Joining the likes of Bad Religion, the Clash, AFI and Social Distortion, it seems that the Melvins are the latest punk band to obtain signature footwear.

Why put a punk band's name on a product that is marketed and sustained by the African American/Urban/Hip Hop community? How is this supposed to work? 11+ Replies

These shoes are a year and a half old, and aren't even availble anymore. How is this news? 4+ Replies

I love the Melvins....but do they really have the mainstream popularity for this kind of thing? Surely not the way those other bands do.

Imagine how punk they are to the 12-year-old chinese slave stiching the name to the shoe 600 times a day. I can't see how anyone could justify that, another fucking corporate cumshot on that marketing whore called 'punk'. 5+ Replies

this all strikes me as a little off. Not because it's simply not "punk" to wear Nike or any other name brand shoes that aren't made by a skateboard company(ie Vans) Let's review the facts: Melvins=respectable, influential post-punk band from late 80's early 90's and friends with the elusive, late Kurt Cobain. They hook up with Jello Biafra gaining them newfound credibility and respect up the ass in 2004 by starting the Jelvins. Jello with the Melvins at his side preaches the anti-corporate, anti-globalization gospel through the music and Jello's on-stage dialouge. Those of us who know Jello from his spoken word career know he's not a big fan of Nike and the like. In fact he's been telling people to boycott them. My point is if these shoes were made two years ago, it was around the same time these guys hooked up WITH Jello. show rest of comment 1+ Reply

This shoes are fucking ugly, looks like they are from the early 90s, and this are basketball shoes, not skate shoes. 1+ Reply
