The Police to reunite?

Though no official word from the band has come, a recent story from The Mirror is reporting that the Police may reunite this year for a tour to mark their 30th Anniversary.

This would be the first Police tour since the band broke up in Melbourne, Australia in 1984. The band consists of pop-sensation Sting on bass and vocals, Andy Summers on guitar and Stewart Copeland on drums.

The article goes on to state that "an official announcement is expected later this month after UK dates are locked in, possibly for May and June."

sure beats all the hardcore old timers trying to come back out of the woodwork and get back together with their crappy bands.

Riiiight. Because Sting has such a connection with today's youth. Nuts to that. I love the Police and would go see this, but you can't tell me this isn't Sting trying to cash-in on a market he was never really in touch with as a solo artist.

Let's be fair ... it's all three of them cashing in. Didn't Andy Summers' autobiog just come out recently? I loved the Police as well, but there's something inside of me that says going to this show would be a Bad Idea, indeed. Like trying to get back together with your High School girlfriend fifteen years down the road. It just won't be able to match the memories, no matter how badly you want it to.

this band has changed my life and i have loved them for years. so many artists nowadays have stolen from them and have been influenced from their style. this would be a breath of fresh air for any fan of music. i cant say that I don't like any of their whole catalog.

There is a total possibility at this point now that stingo has wrecked his career and seems to have no direction..plus I'm sure 25 million more in the old account could feed a lot of starving africans and add to his car collection too. i hope to see stewart playing those songs again.

can't say that this isn't a money-grab, but as far as sting's career, i don't think he's too worried. the guy's got his fans, and while i don't care for anything he's done solo, he'll always have a bunch of women swooning over his albums and his live show.

Fucking A, and pure reggae too. See if you can track down a live version of Bed's Too Big Without You. They used to stretch that reggae jam out to like 10 minutes with dub effects and all. Incredible.

But you can't deny the fact that Summers, Copeland and Sting are great players. And "Dead End Job" (the b-side to "Roxanne") simply shreds...

Pretty much, if you went to a hardcore gig "back in the day," you were asking to be fucked with. Police t-shirts just showed the blood better because they were generally white.

im not a massive police fan, but i cant see any problems in them reuniting, they're all pretty good musicians, and a lot of recent bands have been telling of their influence, so its probably a good thing.

however, the drummer, no matter how talented, is a prick, because he's been on several "celebrity judging panels" on third-rate tv shows, which would be bad enough on its own, but he was being a prick to the contestants too!

About a 18 years ago a metal/punk band called EXCEL did a cover of message in a bottle. It blew me away then. They added some great "whoa's" during the song. Unfortunately I can't find my tape anymore but it rocked.
