wow. that's not very good. these guys are trying everything they can to be relevant. back when pop-punk was popular, they were name-dropping Fifteen, Jawbreaker, and Weezer. Now look: Broken Social Scene, Pedro The Lion, Sparklehorse, The Replacements, Low, The Shins, Swervedriver, The Decemberists, Kent, Tarentel, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Tom Waits, Elliott Smith, Syd Barrett, David Bowie, John Lennon, Asobi Seksu, Phosphorescent, Jets to Brazil, The Good Life, Film School, Hammock, Rilo Kiley, Explosions in the Sky, Hartfield, My Bloody Valentine, John Vanderslice, Belle and Sebastian. 4+ Replies

so, they went from being kings of the pop punk bandwagon to adding a few new people and attempting to be the new kings of the hipster scene. awesome.

from those myspace pictures it looks like that singer guy has been on a long donut shop tour this year, huh? 2+ Replies

you know, as embarrassing as it is to say this, their so long astoria record wasnt bad at all- for what it is. but this new "shift" in genres is pretty terrible. at least if they kept the style the same people might still think they are somewhat sincere in their intentions. but it is pretty obvious that they are now following the direction of the "record execs" and trying to fit in with what the hot new trend is. sickening. 2+ Replies

i cant take any band seriously that needs to add 3 more people into the mix with their "eclectic" sounds and instruments. good lord give it up.

Even though they completely abandoned their pop-punk roots, "So Long Astoria" is a good record for what it is.

This sadden me....A decade ago, this band was quite good. Maybe Kris has matured, maybe his musical taste has growth( even any punk bands on the influence on the myspace page) but maybe he forget what was making the ataris such a good band. Show me the money and i wil show you some shitty music

I liked the looking foward to failure ep but i guees that was like 7 years ago.

I respect them for having After Hours on the list of films they like, so I'm going to keep my mouth shut.

While The killers are trying to sound like Bruce Springsteen. The Ataris are sounding a lot like The Killers.

Nickelback is officially better than The Ataris.

I am obviously in the small minority here, but I have pretty much enjoyed everything the band has putout, and I enjoyed the unmastered version of this album. I preoredered the CDshirt combination, I need more t-shirts.

This band was bad, but they are taking it to a whole new level. The singer sounds like an American Idol flunkie.

It's funny reading all of the "this sounds like" comparisons, since most of them are so far off. I can see HIM more than Manson. If definitely has some 80s new wave/postpunk/proto goth influence, so I can see why someone may say either of those bands. And, aside from the Killers having a bit of that on some of their songs, that's about it on that comparison. | Features
