Whole Wheat Bread starts work on new album, tours

Whole Wheat Bread is currently in pre-production for a new full length album which is expected to be released this summer. The album will be produced by Travis Huff (Fall Out Boy, Pharcyde), who was also behind the boards for the band's recent EP, Punk Life.

The release will be the first for new bassist CJ aka Johnny Rock who was formerly in El Pus. No word yet on whether or not any of the band's recent collaborations with Lil Jon will be on the album. WWB has recorded with the King of Crunk in studios in both Hollywood and Las Vegas.

The band will soon be hitting the road on tour with Against All Authority, The Summer Obsession and Rory.

The fact that this band is popular because they are black means that they are racist, in the sense that they sing about race and use it to distinguish themselves. Like I have said time and time again, shity pop-punk is not about race, its about shitty music. And what a shitty band they are!

You have no idea what 'racism' actually is, do you? Racism is an instituinalized process by which one race is kept at a substandard level! They're not a racist band they play boring pop-punk that caters mostly white, suburban kids!!! They use the fact that they are black as a way to stand out because it sets them apart from all of the other bands that play this crap.

Their first album is ok, kind of reminds of 'Dude Ranch" era Blink, not a good thing, not horribly bad. What I've heard fromt heir e.p, I haven't enjoyed.

you know, its odd how Blink was bashed mercilessly just 5-10 years ago when Enema Of The State and TOYPAJ were popular.. but now it seems like the current trend is to make this band out to be legendary

I see it differently. I think most of the people who bashed blink then stil don't care for tehem, I think most of the people who are defending them are the people who got into punk rock by way of blink-182. Kind of like the way alot of us geysers who got into punk after hearing 'nevermind' or 'dookie' will defend green day or nirvana, even if we don't like the last couple of green day records or the fact that nirvana have been horribly overhyped!

I agree, but I still find it ironic, that Blink are somehow a milestone of credibility and good music. It's also funny to hear the same kids defend Blink, then bash Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte, etc. I wonder if 10 years from now, there's going to be a big "nah dude, Fall Out Boy were the raddest," movement?

i disagree, because I believe without Blink, bands like Fall Out Boy and GC wouldn't be as accepted today as well as they are. Blink not only opened the door for alot of punk fans (I'll admit, I got into punk because of Blink), but they also opened the door to the modern style of tongue-in-cheek punk. Blink were the legendary "frat boys" of pop-punk, and todays pop-punk bands are simply trying to live up to those standards, and i think people are realizing it now.

In fact, I dont think any of todays pop-punk bands would make it, but really wouldnt be suprised is Blink 182 eventually got inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame.

listen, the fact is that when you're a member in a minority group (not just African, but white ethnics as well such as the Irish), it is very common to have pride in your ethnicity and culture. there are a few Irish punk bands on the scene; do you bash them for singing about their culture? some do, but more people give African-American bands a hard time for this than any others. and it is racially-motivated.

look at all the pioneer hip-hop artists.. ranging from Chuck D to Ice Cube and so on, they all showed a certain pride in their race and culture, and used as a theme in many of their songs.
so was that all a gimmick too? come on...

Its not that they have to be like those bands, but in the case of propagandi, they're saying something thats universal, whereas talking repedetly about your skin color is just a way of saying "We got nothing."

Not only that, its in an ironic way, very ailenating.

Blink also kinda touched on a lot of topics, they just made a lot of poop jokes a long the way, which is fine, because for the most part it was lighthearted, and a way for a lot of suburban youth to relate to something besides Staind or Limp Bizkit, or whatever bands were mega huge during their peak. Same with NFG.

I listen to punk so I dont have to listen to shit about street violence, using women, and corner store hustlin. Face it, if these guys were white, youd hate on them just as much as I do now. Youre using their blackness as an excuse for them to be another lame pop act using punk rock as a means to get laid and get paid. And the thing that REALLY pisses me off is how fake it all is. i just saw an ad for the new WWB album, and i swear to fucking god the word "PUNK" was written at least 5-6 times in one paragraph's worth of information.

This band totally fuckin sucks, and too often relies on the fact that theyre black and "crunk" and from the dirty south, but still play "punk". Fuck, this music is weaker than most of the shit FOB has been putting out!

And if you TRULY don't believe theyre using their color as a gimmick, please check out their "crunk classics done punk!" recordings. I'm sure you can find them online somewhere.

Also, a good source says that these fuckers learned how to play their instruments 4 months before their first album was released. Hmm...

I can't believe all the hate for this band. Black or white, gimmick or not, this band is FUN. They play accessible catchy music, and put on an entertaining live show. Yeah, they aren't pushing the envelope, and yeah, they use being black to their advantage, but it's punk music - why is everyone approaching this band like critics?

Here's my honest to God opinion of their music.. which sums it up pretty nicely I think:

The first time someone showed me their page.. I said "oh my god these ghetto thug black guys are really good at pop punk!"

And then I listened to the song a couple more times and unfortunately saw them live more than once, and realized that what I meant to say was "oh my god these guys are really good at pop punk, for ghetto thug black guys." If I'd heard them without seeing them I would have realized instantly that their music is terribly mediocre at best. Not the worst band I've heard, for sure, but pitifully bad in comparison to a lot of other bands who don't get the recognition they deserve.

If they were white guys they'd have a tiny fraction of the fanbase they have, guaranteed.
