Buck-O-Nine to release new album on Asian Man

Buck-O-Nine has unveiled plans to release their next album on Asian Man Records.

The label explained:

Last Friday I got a call from Jon Pebsworth from BUCK-O-NINE. I had met him nearly 15 years ago when my old band and $1.09 played together in San Diego. He said "Mike, do you want to put out the new BUCK-O-NINE?" And I said, "Sure, but you know we're a very small label and won't do much for your band." And his reply was "Sounds good." DONE!! This is the first new album from BUCK-O-NINE in 7 years. Look for either a JULY or AUGUST 2007 release. The band is currently finishing up their recordings in San Diego.

I was just going to ask the same thing. I had no idea that dude was in Buck-O-Nine! They were the first really big show I went to (Buck-O-Nine/Homegrown/Riverfenix @ the Metro, way back in 1999). I don't remember much from their set except some girl next to me who had a broken leg in a full cast but refused to move away from the barricade because BO9 were her favorite band.

I'm surprised Side One isnt putting this out. Although Libido came out in 99, it was damn good, and it seems to me that they are too big for Asian Man. Oh well, either way, I love Buck O Nine and Asian Man, and this album will be mine the day it is released

Why is it, that not necesarily you, but people on this site don't understand why Alkaline Trio don't go back to Asian Man, yet, you at least, think Buck O Nine is too big for the label?

I think it has to do with the fact that there are probably only like 6 people left in the world who are really excited about buck o nine putting out an album and the rest of the poeple out there all ( at the same time mind you, it was pretty sweet) went "meh".

THAT is why Buck O Nine isnt too big for Asian Man.

I don't think that Asian Man could handle a Alk3 release even if they wanted to. I definitely understand why Alk3 isnt on Asian Man anymore, and if I had to choose between the two, Buck O Nine on Asian Man makes more sense. It's just a little surprising to me...........

Going to high school during the ska-punk craze of the 90's, I fell in love with these bands and are so happy to see them coming out with new material, it's like i'm 16 all over again.

I love Buck-O-Nine, but Libido sucked balls. I bought it used for about 2 or 3 bucks and I still got robbed. That said, I'm still interested in checking this one out.

I totally agree with the above statement. I interviewed them for AMP and listened to the record. My first thought after listening to it all the way through was this band is going to get huge and bring ska back.

Ugh, that album is so fucking boring.
The lyrics are a joke, the song structure is sloppy, everything feels incredibly rushed, the horn parts are SEVERELY lacking, and for fuck's sake, it's 2007; why the hell are they still singing about Rude Boys and Rude Girls?
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Big D fan, and I really REALLY wanted to like this album, and while there were a few great standout tracks (souped-up vinyl, noise complaint), it's a 6/10 at best.

Big D are ok. I've known and listened to them for free. My favorite song is still IN FRONT OF ME which they refuse to play because it's so old.

But honestly I think Mad Caddies, Mustard Plug and Buck-O-Nine are a lot better and more unique. I feel the new Big D album has been done before. Its fun but they have a few misses.

Fortunately, as soon as they started to get a lbit popular in the mainstream the ska-craze of the late 90's died, therefore, I don't think we'll have to worry about them releasing a dreaded 'rock band with a brass section". I'm looking forward to hearing what this band sounds like when I'm not high!

Fuckin' awesome. Asian Man was my all time favorite label in high school back in the day. Still respect Mike/the label very much. I saw Buck-o-Nine for the first time ever last year and they kicked so much ass. I love seeing older dudes rock out.

Haha, I feel your pain man, I feel your pain. I used to wear an Asian Man shirt all the time and I got questioned about it on several occasions, all I had to say was "the label owner is asian". I also used to get in trouble for this less than jake shirt I used to wear. It was a drawing of a robot looking at a playbot magazine and he's jacking off. It's actually really subtle looking, but a few people noticed what it was doing. Ska and highschool seem to go hand in hand with a lot of people.

From what I remember, The Blue Meanies made out like bandits on their short stint to the majors. Didn't they get to record the album for free, get to keep all the instruments they bought, get to keep their tour bus, and get the right to their album? I don't remember the legistics of it all, but I remember them saying how they "fucked the man." Anyone want to back me up on this? I couldn't find the memo I remember reading, but I did find this...

their most developed album is 28 teeth. Alot of 'hits' are on that one. however songs in the key of bree is the most celebrated among the stuck up punknews.org types... seeing how they only enjoy the old shit.

What up? It's cool to see the responses to this posting.

The new record has 12 new songs, most of which were written last year.

Musically, this record carries on with the style we have developed in the past, although the overall tone of the album is a bit darker, and definitely more edgy than what we have released before.

Our core group remains intact - even our newest members have been in the band for almost 10 years now!

We're recording it with the same dude who recorded our first two albums, and we're releasing it on Mike Park's label - back in the day, before we even had an album out, we would play shows with Skankin' Pickle in San Diego, and Mike would encourage us to get out on tour, so the cool thing about this album is that everything is coming full-circle, so we're really stoked about the whole project!
