Vice Magazine's online network VBS.tv has posted a new interview with Ian MacKaye of Fugazi/Minor Threat/Dischord fame.

I've had the third one for a few weeks. They've been sending out e-mail updates to members, do you not receive them? They sent an e-mail the week they shipped them and I received mine a couple days later

Good to see so much Ian MacKaye in the news. As someone who is 33 and still into punk rock he's meant more to the scene over the past 25+ years than any other single figure. The DC scene's influence on punk, hardcore, emo, straight edge, punk ethics, and more still resonate today. I'm not the "token old guy" on this site, I'm not jaded and I think today's punk rock is still vital. I'm not here to dog anyone or say "it's not like the old days". I am saying however that if you are young and not familiar with Mr. MacKaye's words or music I suggest you make yourself so. It will enrich your life endlessly.

New Against Me! is sounding good.

I love this band because they are as honest as you will ever see. No rockstar attitude, just totally down to earth, they love what they're doing, and they're trying to make a living. They play right from their heart, and they will never do something they don't want to do just to make more money, they'll do it because it's what they want to do. If you listen to it, great. If not, they don't care - they're having fun, and that's all that counts.

THAT is what being in a band is all about, in my opinion.

I agree. I just didn't dig the cheerleader like intro of the second one. I'm stoked for the album. Hell, I thought Searching for a Former Clarity was phenomenal. They were honest about "selling out" in the album. I don't think it was tongue in cheek songwriting, I think it was brutally honest. They're playing music for fun and for themselves, they're not worried about being someone's entertainment.

Cool that a magazine with so much right-wing race-baiting like Vice puts up a lefty figure like Ian MacKaye. I like Vice, but sometimes there's some really, really awful reactionary politics in it. Thankfully, they usually balance it with good stuff like this.

i feel like Vice doesnt really have the right-wing point of view most people claim, because honeslty, can you see even the most laid back republican not cringing at some of their articles like "Vice Guide to Sucking Cock" (wherein a blindfolded man answers the question of who is better gay men or straigh women) They do have thei reactionary weirdo moments, but they've talked shit about all races pretty consistantly upon the ir general grounds of "fuck all the fuckers"--not a bad stance to take on an illogical concept. All in all I think it's an entertaining magazine and I could see why Ian MacKaye would like it as an alternative to just about everything else (and cmon their ads are pretty!)
