Grindcore inventors Napalm Death have posted an unusual video for their infamous sub-2-second song, "You Suffer." The video, along with a full length DVD documentary will accompany the upcoming reissue of their landmark album, Scum.
The album was originally released in 1987 and established the sound of grindcore as a blazing fast combination of thrash metal and hardcore punk. The album featured Justin Broadrick who later founded both Godflesh and Jesu, drummer Mick Harris who also played in Extreme Noise Terror and went on to form dub/industrial outfit Scorn. The song in question "You Suffer" is in the Guiness Book of World Records as the shortest ever track, clocking in at exactly 1.316 seconds, Earache Records (60 comments)

I love this fucking band. It's probably the only case where there's no original members left and it's still amazing.

I can see it now, some one requesting to see the video on Much Music. I know I would.

I am should be getting this CD soon. I have recently got in contact with Dig again after alomost 20 years glad to see this come out again and can't believe it's been 20 years!!! I was fortunate enough to catch Napalm Death in 87 in the U.K. just after Scum came out. I was on tour with Heresy, Heibel and Larm and they all played together in London. The year 87 was the birth of Stenchcore/Grindcore and I was lucky enough to see it start when I was in the U.K. 1+ Reply

kind of pointless really

at 1.316 seconds, can that even be considered a song? Can there be enough structure in such a short time to constitute it as such and not just noise? Sounds like noise to me. I still respect the band, regardless of this song. 1+ Reply

calling grind a mixture of thrash and hardcore punk is simply sloppy classification (crossover thrash is what a mix of thrash and hardcore is). Grind is a genre that arose out of hardcore, although it was present in the metal band Carcass. It arose from itself, rather than being a mishmash of previously existing genres. | Features
