Editors' Picks: The Unlovables

Justin: The Unlovables offer crunchy female-fronted pop-punk that fits right in with their friends like the Steinways, Ergs, Teenage Bottlerocket and Lemuria. Their sound brings to mind groups like the Dance Hall Crashers and "Samantha" is a great sampling from their upcoming album Heartsickle. By far my favorite part of the song is the "doo dwee oo doo dee doo breakdown" in the middle of the song. Sugary sweet vocals and a catchy chorus is sometimes all I need, obviously. They're out on tour with the Steinways right now and Whoa Oh records is putting out Heartsickle in a week or so. There's just about no reason not to give them a spin.

So, the first week in forever that an MP3 of the song in question is actually offered for a free download (and it's not just a MySpace stream or something), you change the title from "MP3 Of The Week" to "Editor's Picks." Makes sense.

Well Scott-
We actually have had quite a few downloadable tracks this year. Sixteen out of the twenty four picks so far have had downloadable songs attached, some of them (like this weeks) procured from the record label or band just for this feature.

However, you're right we did change the title to more accurately reflect what the section is about. "Editor's Picks" is more in line with this feature than "Mp3 of the Week" as it gives each of the editors to choose a band or song that they feel needs recognition and link to whatever music is provided on the internet. Sadly, a lot of labels are a) not into releasing downloadable mp3s and b) use MySpace for nearly everything these days as you know. Sometimes the only available source for the music is a MySpace stream and I don't feel that we should not feature these bands because they choose to use it. I do try

not really into it, good people though, saw both ohio basement shows, graff is the best person alive

i love this band, saw them in buffalo a week or 2 ago, they were awesome ... really nice too.
