Fox has put together a "undercover" report on the emo scene. Besides taking a look at the roots of emo and the current scene, it looks at the "harassment" faced by scene kids online.

Hmm yeah they do have elements of emo. but defintley rely on more post hardcore followoing such as those found in Jawbox etc. i think the term emo kind of stems from bands like Rites of Spring and Embrace, if memory serves.

Not really, take a listen to Fugazi and Rites Of Spring, completley different. Fugazi were pretty technical and Rites Of Spring relied on emotive guitar melodies and passionate screaming.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen the original trilogy from start to finish. If I did, it was when I was 5 or 6, and I remember very little.

The guy I'm moving in with next month gets drunk and listens to the Return of the Jedi soundtrack regularly, so I'm thinking I'll probably get acquainted with the trilogy a bit better next year.

Emo kids are probably the ones that invented it. Emo kids would have nothing to bitch and whine about if no one ridiculed them. They know they need it.

Jocks need to pick on someone to feel cool so they find the dumbest looking people and kick their asses. Emo kids need to feel unloved and misunderstood to feel cool so they dress and act the way they do to get their asses kicked by the jocks. It's a very strange symbiotic relationship.

The rest of us get cheap laughs out of watching them make fools of themselves (both parties). I figure that national holiday is a good time for everyone.

Really, in the UK? like who? That's good to know it's alive and kicking somewhere. I think it died in the US when Jimmy and The Get Up Kids released their sophmore (poppier) albums, Braid disbanded, and Carabbabba started Dashboard. But in that instance, it just turned into sappy love ballads. Such an extreme gear shift to this goth shit...

Number Girl sort of picked up the reigns in the late 90's - early 00's with an school emo kinda sound. I don't know of any other Japanese band that have tried to sound like them though, since then.

The promise ring/GUK thing i can understand because with every music genere, theer will be following it, a more user-friendly catcty version of it. But the goth stuff has me befuddled. I guess people liked Thursday, and just wanted to be... darker as a step forward from that? Also it doesn't help that all scene kids suck the penis of Tim Burton.

I enjoyed how the beatdown from the punk rockers comes in the form of a circle pit. Since, ya know, pits started in 2007 and are primarily started just to beat up "emos". They pull their shit so tight that anyone outside of the punk rock community would believe them...it may be completely wrong and unfair, but those Repubs are not stupid people. I haven't watched this yet, but I know I will love it. In the mid-90s, Fox did a week on punk rock, and I still quote stuff from that one: "then face to face took the stage, and all hell broke loose." I also liked their late-90s report on the ska scene. They went to an Aquabats show and portrayed one of their staged fights as a real fight, then moved to a pimp n' ho party, which is what all LA ska kids went to back in the day.

I second that. People are fucking clueless. 9 out of 10 people who mention the word are making themselves look comepletely rediculous. There are no Emo bands anymore, there are no emo scene kids anymore. all these kids are is the same mallrat "alternative kids" we have had for 15 years. They just wear tight pants and have shaggy black hair, instead of rediculously huge pants and dyed black hair. Instead of Korn, they listen to Fallout Boy or My Chemical Romance. This is the same with the "goths" a few years back. You can't call anyone goth if they dont listen To Sisters of Mercy or Bauhaus. All the Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails stuff isnt fucking goth.

Is it just me or does the whole world not know what EMO is? Cuz it isn't actually around anymore. It died with the Promise Ring. No one actually thinks they are emo. Anybody who thinks someone else is "emo" is an idiot. You cant be emo, it is a kind of music. Not only that but no one who plays music one would call emo would ever refer to it as emo because it is a rip on the music. Emo bands didnt call themselves emo. People who hated emo bands called it emo. The music has been around for almost 20 years and now that pop punk music has changed so much they call it emo now and all of the sudden its some new craze.
