Epoxies sign to Metropolis Records

Portland, OR synth-punk act the Epoxies have signed to Philadelphia based Metropolis Records, a label famous for their industrial music offerings. The band is working on a new full length, the follow up to 2005's Fat Wreck released Stop The Future, for this fall. Prior to that the group will release a 5 song EP through Metropolis titled My New World. It's set to hit stores on August 21st.

The Epoxies recently released the Synthesized CD EP though Dirtnap, collecting two out of print 7"s released on the label.

Fat dropped them. They sold almost no records.

fat only has one record deals with bands... they most likely left on their own accord.

Wrong. Fat usually has a 2 record deal contract. The contract allows them to resign after the first album for the 2nd if it sells well. It's a business.

thats the thing about fat, they dont care about crap like that. Fat only does one album contracts. Either the epoxies chose to leave or fat didnt offer to put out the next record.

This is pretty great for The Epoxies. They had lots of solid options and chose Metropolis, it wasn't an issue of getting dropped. Metropolis was also trying to sign them before the Fat thing came about.
Fat is a great label, but I don't think they really knew what to do with The Epoxies, Against Me fans aren't that into them and aside from us punknews dorks, The Epoxies don't really fit in with Fat's audience.

But I will say that Mindless Self Indulgence sucks ass.

Woah...I'm quite bummed. I mean, if it's a good move for the band I'm stoked but I love them and was stoked to see them pair up with Fat. However, they are label mates with Mindless Self Indulgence now...that's er, something.

Leaving Dirtnap for Fat is a logical progression, but this is absolutely dumb. It makes no sense. Fat was/is a great label for the Epoxies and it was a positive move when they signed to the label. It would make as much sense if Wax Trax was still around for the Epoxies to sign to that label.

I'm sure Fat didn't want to do another record with them, and vice versa. They don't sell records.

It seems like they didn't promote it very well. Besides the Fat tour and their basic Portland prescence, I had no idea they existed.

The Soviettes broke up a while back. Or at least the word was that their fate was sealed almost immediately after the release of the second LP.

Actually make that after the third LP. Typo.

In the local Minneapolis weekly paper, they won "Best Band To Break Up Within the Last 12 Months" a couple months ago....so I think it's official.

you dont need to be hip, if your label already has some of the most groundbreaking industrial artists, Metropolis has always been a great label, through the good times and not so good, this is just another feather in their cap-oldpunker-
