probably not. i would say at least 2015, if at all.

I think he's making a reference to the fact that Salinger went into seclusion at the peak of his career and hasn't published work since. For example, he says that he's 'dead' but has no grave.

Yeah, I agree with that. But it still doesnt make since to me b/c Salinger published up through the early sixties, almost ten years after Catcher, and he's made it clear that he will leave things to be published after he dies. I dunno, I think you're right though.

Yeah. If you get the BOTAR album he talks about mentioning Salinger because he was a writer who should of killed himself, but instead took a bow and walked away from the limelight.

Exactly what the guy above said. The BOTAR version is better, though. That's twice in this thread that I've mentioned them. I'm an asshole. Cool, powerful song, though.

I'd say he's referring to the fact that Salinger hasn't published anything since the late sixties and pretty much disappeared about twenty five years ago. So the death thing could just be an abstraction about his disappearance from the literature scene or something. Not too sure though, ha ha.

It's the lines:

There's no plaque or grave because because he's not actually dead. He purposefully took himself out of the world without resulting to suicide.

From the liner notes to A Call to Arms: "...I know Salinger didn't commit suicide: He's the hero here. So many talented people can't grasp or even withstand the pressures of a public life following success. Salinger, in my opinion at least, handled it so much more beautifully than the others that are mentioned: He simply disappeared from the light that seemed to hurt him more than help him."

I dont really think Hemmingway's departure was as much of a "mishandle" as it is made out to be, though. After all, the guy had been injure twice in two separate plan crashes, severely burned in a fire, and lost his memory due to electroshock therapy for his severe depression. He was in his sixties, too. He had led a full life.

Thats some cool insight. I love it when artists include detailed liner notes. Say what you will about Thrice, but the liner notes for the deluxe editions of their last couple of albums had some really interesting info in them.

i was at the august 10th show too and i heard the merch guy tell someone november also, was probably you. i asked him after and he said the same thing.

i cant wait, my favorite band of all time. ska - fast - different - its just awesome

+10 points for the ad I just saw on this site. It was for Crime In Stereo's new album. I'd much rather have information on that, beyond its title.

Where the fuck did you get this information, I won't believe this unless It is from Victory or from Streetlight.

This band is better than when people were all excited in 2003.

Now it's just popular to bitch and moan about them.

Someone who likes ska might like the Slackers, Westbound Train, Hepcat, and the Skatalites. Streetlight Manifesto sounds nothing like those bands, so it shouldn't be shocking that ska fans might not like them. Ska fans generally like music you can dance to, and all of Streetlight's songs are too fast to skank to. I personally prefer a dancing crowd to a moshing crowd. There's a lot to dislike about Streetlight Manifesto if you're a ska fan, not to mention someone might just not like their music.

To fast to skank too? I think you just suck at skanking. Which is sad, because it's hard to suck at it. I like all those bands and still like Streetlight. I don't see how you say their music isn't danceable, everything I've heard by them is danceable.

Well yeah, you're talking about traditional and two-tone ska. I should have specified that to third wave fans. It is fast, but you can skank to it, and you can certainly do other kinds of dancing (skanking gets old pretty quickly anyway). Besides Giving Up, Giving In and A Moment of Violence, there aren't really any punk rock, moshing type songs.

Obviously, you don't have to like them if you like ska, but in my opinion, they are far and away the most creative band in the genre. It seems like most ska fans could overlook the fact that they are notoriously slow, if it means a better end product.

Most creative? Come onnnnn. Tomas writes the same shit now as he did 10 years ago, only now he write extra horn parts and repeats too many times. If you took out all the needless repetition in Streetlight songs, they'd be Catch 22. Also, all their songs sound the same. That's not creative. You can say they're good, but creative is just plain wrong. Bomb The Music Industry!, the Flaming Tsunamis, the Blue Meanies, Fatter Than Albert, Gangster Fun, Cryptorchid Chipmunk, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Rotterdam Ska Jazz Foundation, and Mad Caddies are some actual creative bands who play ska. Give any of them a listen.
