Media: Black Lips: "Veni Vedi Veci (Diplo Remix)"

Black Lips have released one of the exclusive remixes from the upcoming single version of Veni Vidi Vici. The original track appears on the band's studio debut for Vice Records, Good Bad Not Evil.

Okay, so my band is trying to get it's first show booked. I've been reading up on interwebs about this situation, and the rule I keep running into is: Don't pay to play.

Now we have an oppertunity to play at the "standard" hardcore/metal/alternative music venue in the area for our first show, and we'll be playing with several other bands. But this is where it gets sticky.

The guy booking it needs to make $370. If all the bands playing don't make the $370, we have to come up with the rest of the money between us and pay the guy booking it. If we do draw enough people, it gets split 30/70. This, to me, seems like a variation on the pay to play scheme, and my logic tells me not to do it. However a lot of the people around me are saying to do it. Personally, I'd just like to set up for free and play my songs and not get paid. It's our first sh

I wouldn't bother with that. Throw a house party instead, or get some friends bands together and rent a VFW Hall, they typically come pretty cheap. It doesn't neccesarily sound scam-ish but it does sound like a shitty setup with a shady promoter.
