Blink-182 and Plus 44 drummer Travis Barker has reportedly filed suit against Rockstar Beverages and their product, Rockstar Energy Drink.
According to the suit, the Rockstar Web site published a photo of Barker "holding a can of one of Rockstar's beverages, and identifying him and his endorsement by name" without his consent. The lawsuit claims invasion of privacy, unfair competition and misappropriating his likeness to promote the product. Barker is "a prominent figure in the rock music world," according to the lawsuit, which seeks unspecified punitive and statutory damages. Rockstar has been busy with a number of projects including sponsoring events like the Warped Tour and Kevin Lyman's upcoming Rockstar Mayhem tour. News (202 comments)

Rockstar supports Girls Gone Wild, which (and I can't believe I'm saying this) is reason enough to root for Barker on this one. 11+ Replies

I seriously hate Rock Star if for no other reason than their support of Girls Gone Wild. I can accept they make a crappy soda that tastes like balls but I don't understand how you can support such a shitty organization. 2+ Replies

This would be hilarious if the photo was just a random paprazzi photo.

This is an open and shut case. Rockstar Beverages holds the copyright on the term 'rockstar', meaning that they have the rights to anyone that can be branded with that label. An unwise move by Mr Barker was stating that he is, in fact, "a prominent figure in the rock music world." If Rockstar Beverages can effectively convince a jury that this qualifies him as a rockstar, case closed. 7+ Replies

I don't know what was going on with Travis that day, but ever since I watched the interview with Nardwuar, I've lost respect for him.

This is just one of many recent cases of a company using a musician in an advertisement and getting slapped with a lawsuit. I am thinking, of course, of the Cobain / Ramone / Strummer footwear business and Rolling Stone's Rock Universe with Camel. You would think they would learn. 2+ Replies

ah, porno: ok, I like it. I don't pay for, but i like it. but i have some moral questions about it. so if the girls WANT to do it, then it's ok right? ok....but do they only want to do because of the popularity of the genre? is it just a new way to get your 15 minutes? I'm not sure about this one, but i've been told that a very high percentage of girls who do porno have been sexually abused in their past, anybody know anything about that? and lastly, isn't this just like prostitution? I mean, esentially, if you buy the stuff, then you are paying to watch two people go at it. is that really any different from doing that in a room instead of watching it on a tape? and buy paying for it, you're funding a system that is essentially degrading peoples moral fabic right? so why is it ok to cut out the middle man? why is it acce show rest of comment 1+ Reply
