Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) composes soundtrack for "adult" film

Thurston Moore, co-vocalist of Sonic Youth and solo artist has apparently recorded the score for a new Adult film to be released by MVD. Titled Richard Kern: Extra Action (And Extra Hardcore), the film is described as 60 minutes of "amateur" incidents, set to Moore's original score.

According to the Wikipedia entry for Richard Kern, this isn't his first collaboration with musicians, having previously produced films with the likes of Lydia Lunch and Henry Rollins. He also directed the Sonic Youth video for "Death Valley 69."

Anonymous posting was terrific. People had a lot more fun with it.

And I don't think it's really improved the quality of posts too much. And we still see plenty of homophobic shit being flung around. I guess it allows you to remember who says something idiotic and either hold them accountable or, at least, know who is just trying to be an idiot and isn't worth paying attention to or arguing with.

Well, Sonic Youth's music is undoubtedly sexy. And considering the prior relations between them and Kern (The cover of Evol is a still from one of his films!), this isn't too big of a shock. After all, this guy is to pornography pretty much what SY are to rock music.

I know this makes me look like an un-punk toolbag, but do you guys recommend Sonic Youth to the typical punk listener? How would you describe their sound? The Clash? Dinosaur Jr.-ish? I plan on looking them up when I get home. I wanted to get into their stuff for a while now. Hopefully I'll like it.

Their first record is basically like the most obnoxious, annoying horror movie soundtrack of all time.

Some people say they're brilliant, but I've only ever heard guitar wankery, unlistenable noise, and shitty singing.

Listen to the latest album "Rather Ripped". I have the same complaints about the old material, and I don't much care for it. But nowadays, they write really good songs. Even Kim's are somewhat decent. And Thurston's just excellent.

If you're looking for "punk rock" than look elsewhere (and when I say that I mean the caricature of punk rock ie Green Day, Blink 182, etc.). If you're looking for something with some depth that challenges the ear and makes you want to dig deeper than give it a shot. I would recommend starting with Daydream Nation or Sister first.

sister and Daydream Nation are good places to start and really give the listener the idea of their sound. but also don't put off any of the newer stuff if your trying to get into them, Sonic Nurse, Murray Street and Rather Ripped have been Sonic Youth at their most accessible in my opinion. They really restrained the the noise without fully abandoning it and they crafted some of their most beautiful and melodic songs. They really are a great band!

I hate Daydream Nation, except for Teenage Riot and Candle. Sister has some pretty good songs, but is generally unimpressive. The new albums are amazing, though. Less emphasis on the noise, more focus on music.

Gotta agree with Matt, the first record is an audio kick in the nuts. If you are going to pick something up though, Daydream Nation, Dirty and Goo have some pretty fun crap on them. The video for 100% off of Dirty was nothing but Pro skater Jason Lee (Earl) skating around town.

i just bought the Arrested Development complete series off Amazon

show's so good...i think i'm the only person i know who watched every episode of that when it was on the air, too bad more people didn't get into it or maybe it would have made it longer

they totally got shafted the last season though with all the programming breaks and stuff for sports...you can't appreciate that show unless you tune in every week

Same here, I kept trying to turn people onto it. It was like the Royal Tenenbaums only way more surreal. Fox is fucking stupid, they dump that but keep some of the worst shit imaginable for years and years. How many seasons did Married with Children get? I'm not shitting on the Bundys but there is NOTHING like Arrested Development, I laugh everytime I put the dvds in, it never ever gets old.

I dislike old Sonic Youth, but their recent output has proven to me that Thurston Moore is an excellent songwriter. Rather Ripped and Sonic Nurse are excellent.

Thurston's latest solo album is pretty good too.

It's kind of odd that Aubin said he was the co-vocalist of Sonic Youth, neglecting to mention that he plays guitar in the band, which is really what he's known for.

It's just a magazine list, but Rolling Stone said he was the 33rd best guitarist of all time.
