Videos: Hot Water Music: "Turnstyle"

As some of you may know, Hot Water Music performed a triumphant reunion show this past weekend at the Starland in Sayreville, NJ. Though you might not have been able to get out to the show, a videographer put together a fairly high quality recording of the band's performance of "Turnstyle."

We sent our own videographer to a recent performance so stay tuned for what he came back with.

Last weekend at the Black Cat we yelled at Chuck Ragan to play "Radio" until he played "Bleeder" to shut us up. It was pretty rad, and there's nothing like 150+ drunk punks singing "my lonely liver suspended in liquid!"

the Friday night show in Gainesville last week was video taped with 4 really nice cameras (same ones we filmed The Fest with this year)
it's about half way done being edited but so far but it looks awesome

the show was great but the damn venue sucked something terrible.

lighting was good, sound was good, but it was in the middle-of-nowhere-new-jersey and yet still charged for fucking parking? and what was this shit about not being able to bring your beer down into the crowd?

bitching aside, felt really great to see hot water up on stage again. i just hope they do another tour to a more reasonable venue.

what was worse for the parking was the 'star parking' they tried to pitch us for 18 bucks or whatever on ticketmaster. i wou ld have been PISSED if i paid 18 bucks only to get to the show and find out parking was 6 bucks.

i'm not sure if this went for every HWM show (this was my first show seeing them. please hold your insults.), but there was a SHIT LOAD of beards here. I think The Lawrence Arms all grew beards for this. it was total brutal and awesome.

This show was awesome. The crowd was kind of weird. A lot of people who were there to be there and a lot of scene dorks. Every band was amazing though, incredible. Best Lawrence Arms set, Static Radio NJ rules, and Hot Water was unbelievable.

Only downside was some Charles Darwin looking guy who was vertically inclined bitching me out for being tall? And then his fire squad friend telling me to calm down when all I told them to do was chill? But that was hardly enough to hamper my night full of awesomeness.

the crowd sucked, the venue sucked, the security was downright offensive but Hot Water Music blew me the fuck away. so fucking good.

Who starts a pit at a hwm show anyways? Don't get me wrong, i'm still one of those guys who like to run around and go way too nuts but every hwm show i've been to has just been a sweaty, beardy sing-a-long pile and lots of beer being spilled all over me, great times.

Watching this just now just made me feel 21 again. Thank you for whoever took this video.

I couldn't help but notice how natural they looked together on stage, and I spent a pretty fair amount of time in Florida watching the band and then graciously having the oppertunity to play many shows with them, and this was in their heyday.

Maybe they should hit the road again for real

you're an idiot no matter how that was meant. if you think hwm ripped off the lawrence arms you're a fan of neither of them. if you meant the lawrence arms ripped off hwm you're only right if you mean the redone version from cocktails and dreams and if turnstiles is your favorite song you'd know the original version didn't have the always remember, no point to surrender line in it

Like I said in Navel Gazing, completely worth the six hour drive I took to get to this show. If they go on a full fledged tour I'm going to feel pretty slighted though.

6 hours ain't bad. It just means you're a fan.

I've driven 10 hours to see a show that I saw 2 days earlier in Chicago. It's good music, man.

Now, on the other band, if I actually bought 2 tickets to the Bosstones show last month at $250, spent money to drive and lodge there, and then they announce a Chicago show, then I'd feel like a douche.
But on the other band, if that happened, it would've been my first trip to Boston, and would just be one helluva memorable show anyway.

Like if you were listening to it on vinyl you'd be like "whoa-hey!" and adjust the speed?

I dunno, it could just be because I've listened to that album alot lately so I'm used to the studio version.

Sorry but this whole show was a terrible disapointment for me and my friends who drove three hours to see it. First off, if you are going to do a reunion show, do it for the fans and play a setlist that is comprised of mostly your older stuff and save your new stuff for if you are planning to get back together. Second having been a veteran of many pre 2k hot water shows (including the one chuck mentioned about the day the melody burned down in NB, so we all went to a basement, of which kid dynamite also played), this was by far a lame performance. They used to have so much energy from chuck breaking mic stands with his face and constantly losing his guitar to black jumping all over the place. I realize they are older, but I am 31 myself and still dance at shows and have a good time. This whole show was spent standing around hoping they would play more pre division s

I saw them in Chicago and thought they were great. I am surprised they were so good after not playing for about 2 years. I understand how people draw a line and say that the pre-No Division stuff is better but I really can't agree. The style just moved away from the heavy Fugazi-ish sound and went in a more rockish direction. The songs are still so heartfelt and driving. Just different.
