Warped Spinoff to include Slipknot, Mastodon, Dragonforce, Red Chord, Walls of Jericho

The Rockstar Mayhem tour has unveiled their lineup for this summer's run. The fest was assembled by Kevin Lyman, the man behind the punk-focused Warped and the emo-heavy Taste of Chaos. Along with the previously confirmed masked band Slipknot and Finch punchers Disturbed, the tour has confirmed acts including Dragonforce, Mastodon, Machine Head, Black Tide, Suicide Silence, The Red Chord and Walls of Jericho.

Dates are expected shortly, but the first show is confirmed for Seattle, WA on July 9th at the White River Amphitheater.

I don't really consider Slipknot "nu metal." Other than them, I see 2 bands that fit that description.

that may be, but it's kinda like calling TBS emo.

they have much more in common with death metal than people give them credit for. certainly alot more than they have in common with, limp bizkit for example (who should ALWAYS be the focal point of nu metal).

As far as I'm concerned, Limp Bizkit is rap-metal. Shit like Slipknot and Mudvayne is nu-metal.

They really didn't have much in common with other "nu metal" bands, other than time frame. They're more closely related to other early/mid 90s Roadrunner acts (Fear Factory, Machine Head, Sepultura, etc) than they are to say Limp Bizkit, Sevendust, etc.

Considering Sevendust, Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Eminem, D12, Alkoholics, Kool Keith, As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, Ice T, Sugar Ray, Kid Rock, Black Eyed Peas all did the tour at point, it's tough to make an argument for Warped being overly punk. You could split hairs over many more, but that gets the point across for now.

Dragonforce is fucking insane. I saw them in LA and they had trampolines on stage and people in the audience dressed up like wizards and shit. On the way in there was a sign posted that said " Please leave plastic swords and weapons in your vehicle" haha

Gotta love Power Metal.

ha sadly no, real weapons weren't allowed either. I did witness a full on nerd sword battle outside the venue after the show though. NO, I'm not kidding.

What the hell has happened to this tour!!!!! Where are the Vandals, Me First, Bad Religion, Dropkick, Rise Against, Nofx, Rancid, 7seconds, Pennywise????

This is the worst thing i have ever seen.

P.S. Slipknot is the worst band i have ever seen. As someone from Iowa who watched them before there breakthrough into mainstream, they suck. they have always sucked. horrible band live. and i cant respect a band that sucks live. Plus Cory Taylor is lame. Stone Sour sucks too.

It's funny because despite writing concept albums on fantastical themes Mastodon is a fairly low gimmick band. On a stage that is nothing but the Insane Clown Posse of rock.

their first record still holds a special place in my heart, despite the mysogyny and lame sexist references. it's like a cartoon or something...

i never really got into headbanger's ball, so much as 120 minutes, cos they'd generally have at least one old punk video...but in the early 90's, most of what they played for normal rotation--bad religion, nirvana, etc--was about the same that came on during the day.

of course, that was that channel actually played music...

I'm sorry Aubin, but you have enough experience with the Gravity records catalog to know that Taste of Chaos is not "emo-heavy" at all. For shame. For shaaaaame.
Also, anyone who pays money to attend this tour is neither "punk" nor "metal." People who get press passes or sneak in, however, are incredibly punk and/or metal.

Call me lame......but Slipknot are one of the very few mainstream bands I actually dig. Never seen them live nor do I know much about them but ever since their first record I've been a semi-fan. And Mastodon can play their asses off. I prefer my metal with a punk or sludgy edge....which non of these bands have......but still some of them are good in a "guilty pleasure" sort of way. Except Disturbed....I can't stand that fucking band.

Wow. Kevin Lyman did it. He finally did something that I cannot defend in any way. At least Warped Tour started out as a counter-culture festival, and, say what you will, still retains a few shreds of it's former decency. Taste of Chaos gave a major outlet to a silly fad, but at least a few good bands emerged from said fad. This Nu-Metal fest is amazingly silly. These bands don't need another festival tour. They have Ozzfest and MORE THAN ENOUGH radio play. This reminds me of the time Puddle of Mudd was on the cover of AP. Sheesh.

As already commented on, there's barely any "nu metal" on this.
And, you're obviously very naive. Yeah, Warped is Lyman's baby and he loves punk music, but you probably don't have the first idea of what his other involvements are. He was involved with Lolapalooze for years, he does custom car show tours, and is involved with way more than is reported on punknews.org. He's a business man, and a very good one at that.
I also see very little difference between this tour and Taste of Chaos, aside from you liking some "nu emo" bands and don't like metal. Mastodon, Walls of Jericho, etc have WAY more "punk cred" than MANY of the bands that play Taste. Don't the bands that play Taste get enough radio play? Certainly more than any of the bands on this metal tour are getting. I'm not sure who's on Warped this year, but I remember a few years ago, My Chem, Fall Out Boy

Aside from Black Tide, whom I don't know, ALL of these bands have WAY more credibility than most of the TOC bands, and probably a large chunk on Warped. Also, NONE of them are "nu metal."

It's bad enough the man has corrupted my little brother into thinking Drop Dead Gorgeous is "punk" because they toured the Warped Tour last summer, but now I have to deal with the one sancity of ear splitting music I have left being corrupted by Senor Douchebag.
