Media: Pennywise: "Something to Live For"

Pennywise has posted a new song from their upcoming record Reason To Believe. The album will be released by Epitaph in Europe while MySpace Records will handle the US release on March 25, 2008.

The previously posted track listing reveals a CD / vinyl only track and a vinyl exclusive. It's unknown at this time if those exclusives will apply in North America or if they're European-only. As previously announced MySpace Records will offer up the album as a free digital download via a Textango promotion. Anyone who adds Textango's profile as a friend on the social networking site MySpace will get access to the songs.

With myspace, you mean? No. They want to give the album away for free. And Myspace records help them to reach more people than than they would on their own. I wish people would stop bitching about the label and take a moment to think about how they're offering you their album FOR FREE.

I was referring to the blandness and lack of inspiration in this song.

I like it. I've always liked Pennywise for the most part. The album art is pretty cool also.

i grew up with this band. loved them for years. just didn't need any more new music from them, but don't hate them. but this bothers me.

Yeah, but they're giving the album away for free, and are likely going to continue promoting awareness on such issues as those in the song "Fox TV". They're not selling out. I think the main idea behind the singing was to offer the album for free. Which is the most important factor to consider regarding this release.

If they're so adamant about getting the album out free, why not just put it on Soulseek. It's not very hard to give something away.

Pennywise always sticks with basically the same formula, but it works. They write some awesome songs that I'll always love. They know their strengths and they use them to make good, fast punk rock.

On a related topic, "Dying to Know" is one of their best songs ever. Jim sounds slightly like Shawn Stern from Youth Brigade on that song, and believe me, that is a high compliment.

I've always thought that was their best song, but I've NEVER thought Jim sounds anything like Shawn Stern.

Yeah man, not usually... but just in that song. It's not really how his voice sounds, but the style that he sings. The whole song kinda sounds Youth Brigade-ish to me, but mostly because of how Jim sings more instead of his usual fairly monotone yell.

It is a great song. I like "Wouldn't It Be Nice". Also, from the newer albums, I like "This is Only a Test". But then again, I really thought From the Ashes was a great album.

Ha! This song sounds like UL from the OZ Factor days, which sounded like a mediocre rip off of Pennywise riffs & Bad Religion oohs and aahs. Kudos to them for releasing another album though.

All their songs sound so similar that they tricked punknews into thinking they were different songs. Don't try it, Pennywise.

Why does everyone her bitch about Pennywise always sounding the same, you know it by now and why don´t you hate on The Ramones or Bad Relgion as well?!? Pennywise is still way better than the whole Tatecore-Bullshit out there that makes me wanna stab my ears ...

Punks are expert whiners. I try to ignore them as best I can. I don't always succeed, though. But Pennywise is making Pennywise music for Pennywise and Pennywise fans. So the rest can go to hell if they don't like it.

Again, this just goes to show how obnoxious punks are when they want to bitch. They're giving you the album for free. But nobody wants to look at that part of it, because they can find something else to bitch about. Shut up, already.

Myspace must have shelled out some money for Pennywise to give their album away for free on Myspace. With all the traffic they lose to Facebook now I'm pretty sure this will be the first of many marketing strategies for Myspace. It probably worked out better for Pennywise in the end to considering their last few albums haven't sold that well and they look good giving an album away for free...

Remember how Pennywise wrote the song "Fox News" on their last album, myspace is owned by fox...hmmmmmm...........

The CD/LP will be out on Epitaph, so none of the money from the real fans who want to support the band will be going to Fox/MySpace
