Social Distortion plan acoustic album for 2009

In a new interview with Spinner, Social Distortion's Mike Ness reveals some of the long-running bands plans for the coming years.

For 2009, Ness is aiming for an acoustic Social Distortion album saying:

I think it could be really, really neat. It's almost like a Bob Dylan/Bruce Springsteen/Johnny Cash kind of feel with a punk edge ... but acoustic. Sometimes [the songs] are more powerful stripped down than with full volume.

The record will include new acoustic renditions of older songs as well as new material. Ness promises that a more traditional Social D. album as well as another solo album are also in the works:

I don't know what will be first. It's hard to say. I'm kind of leaving the first part of next year open for writing and recording and whatever happens, happens.

Ness begins a solo tour May 2 at the Stagecoach Festival at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, Calif. The run lasts for three weeks. He has scheduled three more weeks in July and December.

Mike Ness has been slapping SD's name on his solo albums since SD signed with Epic. Look at the writing credits... Dennis got a few credits but for the most part it is all Mike Ness.

So let me get this straight... You're criticizing Mike Ness for writing most of the music for a band, yet giving credit to the band as a whole rather than just saying fuck it and going completely solo?

You're also saying that he's abandoning his solo projects to increase album sales, even though this article says he's doing another solo album? Fuck effort, right?

No lie. Listening to DC talk when I was 8 was when I decided to listen to rock music. Its the first time I ever listened to music meant for non-kids and it meant something. Its kind of been a strange trip since then.

This Fonzie Zombie blows. Mike Ness is an old wet paper bag. Give it up. Social D suck. Have you heard "Story of My Life"? Yeah, you've heard EVERY song then. Same 1-4-5 Progression, NO leads. He butchered Ring Of Fire, by only playing chords and not doing like an octave riff to simulate the trumpets. Your tattoos and pomp don't make you rock. But chicks think you do, so I guess that's a good motivation.

No leads? What do you call that lead, then? And those leads in most Social D songs? Not leads? Also, he uses some 1-6-3-7 progressions (...I think that's right). And 1-5-6. Etc.

Basically, that was the worst rant I've read in a long time. And there are tons of crappy ones on this site. Try again when you have some valid arguments.

Wasn't a new album originally meant to be coming out before the Greatest Hits album? 2009 will be 5 years since their last album of new material came out, the guy sure likes to take his time with these things.

I know thats an annoying part about being a fan of Social D is that their always "in the process of writing and recording" which always takes 5 or more years to hear new material. But then again everytime they do release an album its different and more solid.

I don't know if I should be happy or not with all these new records coming, since we all thought they were working on a new social d traditional album and nothing more, so i had some hopes on the new album to be released somewere this year... but with all these 'goodies', i better forget about that.

Appetite sounds very different from Use Your Illusion 1 and 2. And if you've heard anything that's leaked from the new record, some of it is similar to some stuff on the Illusions but it's pretty different overall.

i hate to sound like some cliche elitist (or clichelitist if you will) but i dont really like anything by this band after prison bound, and even then just about. i just don't dig rockabilly that much, and its a shame because mommy's little monster is one of my favourite albums.

Bob Dylan has about 30 albums over his 40+ year career, about 5 of which are mostly acoustic. I mean, half the tracks on his first greatest hits album are electric and band-driven for Jebus' sake. He certainly shouldn't be, and most for most people isn't, just an acoustic act.

My point is that Mike Ness is using the term "Bob Dylan" incorrectly.
