Less Than Jake putting "finishing touches" on new record

Less Than Jake's Vinnie Fiorello spilled the beans in a recent interview with Australia's Triple-J and our good friend Stu Harvey managed to get a few details out of him. First, the band is currently putting "the finishing touches" on the new full length, and first for their newly launched Sleep It Off Records, with plans for it to be released on June 24th , 2008. The band is working with Matt Allison (Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, Lawrence Arms, Copyrights, Methadones) in Chicago.

Along with mentioning the album, Vinnie talks at length about the bands new reissues, their extensive back catalogue and what the future holds for Less Than Jake.

I prefer Borders and Boundaries to Losing Streak.

I bought Borders and Boundaries and Losing Streak at the same time, not hearing any songs of either. I put in Borders first since I thought I would like it better. I listened to it all the way through and was thoroughly dissapointed. I half-heartedly put in Losing Streak. Within 30 seconds I had a new favorite cd.

Losing Streak blows away Borders and Every Ska-punk cd ever.

I really do think I'm in the minority when I say that "Anthem" is their best album. It just feels so complete to me. Sure I grew up blasting Hello Rockview and Losing Streak, but there's something about Anthem that just clicks.

I love Anthem too. I don't think they have a bad record. The last one even had a few gems on it, I didn't hate it. I'll buy anything new these guys throw at me though.

Love 'em all, with the exception of Out Crowd ... and it's really "Hopeless Case" that completely kills that for me.

Easily worst LTJ song committed to tape. Sorry guys, I love you, but WTF were you thinking?

they shoulda left hopless case on the cutting room floor, and put "only human" "we the uninspired" and "negative sides of optimistic eyes" on it instead. as it is, it's an alright album, but with those three instead of hopeless case, it'd be awesome.

Anthem's a good album, but I definitely wouldn't say it's in their top 3. I'll probably always like Hello Rockview the most since it's the first one I heard.

I wouldn't say it's their best, but I'd put it after Losing Streak and Rockview. As un-punx as it is, with the except of IWTOC, their major labels albums have been the best.

has everyone forgotten about pezcore?? awesome album! even the out of tune sax/trombone on the old stuff is still better than the majority of the last 2 albums. admittedly there are a few good tracks but as albums as a whole i thought they left a lot to be desired.

I've still got my demo tape from before Pezcore and then bought the full length when Dill put it out. I loved it then, it's just weak when I put it in now, as much as I love the songs, I never listen to it.

4) Borders And Boundaries
5) B Is For B-Sides
6) In With The Out Crowd
7) Pezcore
8) Losers, Kings, And Things We Don't Understand
9) Goodbye Blue And White

And again, I predict the new one will fill the #3 spot, bumping everything else down.

to be fair though, i really couldn't rank them like that. depends what mood i'm in as to which i'll listen to, but i like all of em.

Here's my unpopular ranking

1) Hello Rockview (Really got me through high school)
2) Anthem
3) Losing Streak (Didn't age well, but still awesome)
4) B Is For B Sides
5) Pezcore
6) Borders And Boundaries
7) Goodbye Blue And White
8) Losers, Kings.....
9) In With The Out Crowd (Still Life Franchise and nothing else)

The signifcant drop off is after Borders And Boundaries. The Top 6 are pretty interchangable with B Is For B Sides being one of the most underrated records by any band anywhere.

does anyone else find it a little bit funny that their new album is coming out with such little hype on june 24th (I think that's what he said) and the gaslight anthem's isn't coming til august, with boatloads of hype all around?
take what you want from it, but that's the first thing I thought of when vinnie dropped the release date.

Skipped the last record, but hopefully this one is worth getting.

Either way, I've been going to LTJ shows since like 13, and they've never disappointed live. Same with Against All Authority, come to think of it.

Did anyone else assume by the title of this story that LTJ were putting out a new vinyl record that would be limited to around 75 which featured the band member's fingerprints on the vinyl after they had touched it, thus making it even more rare and having people spend thousands of dollars trading it around on eBay?
