Smoking Popes plan record release show for June

The Smoking Popes will perform a record releaes show for their long-awaited new full length Stay Down in Chicago. The 18+ show will take place at the Metro on June 7th. Support acts have not yet been announced.

Stay Down will be the band's first full length in more than a decade, following up 1997's Destination Failure. Chicago indie Flameshovel had been previously linked to the release, but as of now the label has no further information regarding it online.

i've so fallen in love with the smoking popes in the past couple years. definitely interested in hearing the new stuff. i know they've been teasing it for a really long time, and had a couple songs up on their myspace too for a long while.

I don't like this band mainly because of the song "Paul".

That line that goes something like "She say 'I love you Pauuuuullll"'.... I hate it, mainly because my name is Paul, and I hate my fucking name (actually, I hate many one-syllabled names).

They got some good songs, but because of "Paul" I don't like them.

I don't know why I hate all the one-syllabled names, but I probably hate my own name because it just so happens that ANYTIME someone asks what my name is, I always stutter it out, or whimper, or some shit.

I use fake names a lot, and have no problem getting those out verbally: David, Adam, Jason, etc...

I'm basically a total retard.

I got into the Popes recently and the only place I could fine that album was Ebay. The only song I knew was "Not that kind of girlfriend" and I had to own it to hear the rest.

It's really funny how their "triumphant return" has turned into an extended wait. I'm glad to see that "Chinese Democracy" is finally being released.

But seriously, I think these guys thought they were gonna get some kind of major label payoff when they reunited. They seem to have the Chicago Syndrome: They're the big, bald, "kings of the scene" in their hometown and can't do much anywhere else.

The Christian angle didn't work and now the reunion gambit is in the process of failing as well.

Sorry boys, but you're only fans are a bunch of chubby, balding, nearing middle-aged Christians who like you because they see their own mediocracy reflected in the form of "rock stars," the Smoking Popes.
