Against Me! produce "Rock the Vote!" PSA

Against Me! have put together a special video of their track "Stop!" to participate in the long-running Rock The Vote! campaign. Along with the song, the PSA features some images of the various controversies and issues that are at play in the ongoing Democratic primaries and upcoming General Election.

Speaking of which, it's not too early to register to vote. If you will be 18 in time for the general election, you can register here.

oh yeah i definitely agree that Common's last two albums have been simply amazing, and Kanye has had a large part in that. i also know very well that Kanye cant really rap that well , he doesnt have the flow that others do, although he does have a very unique style.

but the beats, especially on College Dropout and Late Registration, are pretty amazing imo and definitely balance Kanye's shortcomings. but thats just my opinion

yes classic, and i'm 24. its not as classic as Illmatic or Ready To Die or some of the other big ones... but i interact on a lot of hip hop messageboards, including underground ones, and the general consensus is that College Dropout is one of the best debuts ever. a lot of underground and semi-underground rap artists like Talib Kweli have a lot of respect for his music and have been featured on his albums. if you dont know this, its only b/c you dont listen to much hip hop

You can't turn on the radio or tv without hearing some sort of rap or hip-hop record. You act like it's fucking raw and underground. It's pop music. I don't give a shit about the themes. The records that you say are classics, I think are pop drivel (Notorious BIG, NAS, etc...).

Don't try to take an elitest high road like you are finding something obscure, I don't care about rap, I don't find it relevant to my life. As far as I'm concerned it doesn't exist.

He yelled at one of my friends who was setting up some corporate event he "played" because she wouldn't give him the home phone number of someone on the venue's maintenance staff so he could hassle them about some drugs he lost and claimed were stolen sometime in the middle of the afternoon. haha ok, i just have a feeling you're judging him by Stronger and Gold Digger which dont represent his albums. nearly all of his songs are either socially or politically-conscious in some way. it'd be like me only listening to Stop and judging all of Against Me's music after that one incredibly awful song, its not really fair to the artist

I can not stand Kanye as an MC. As a producer he's pretty top notch but any time he's on a mic I cringe (save for the "Kanye West Workout Plan" it's hilarious). Even he supposed classic (said by many people) "Late Registration" is laden with laughable rhymes and horrifically awkward phrases.

I've never heard a song about a near death experience that seemed so poorly contrived.

I like Against Me! I doubt that'll ever change, and what I can really appreciate is the fact that there is no agenda (polliticall speaking, the agenda is to get people to vote). But they aren't cramming any of the top three down your throat. It's subtle enough, and I really think subtly is a dying art form.

thanks for checking the page out...expect another recording in a few weeks; the problem is that we both live in austin and have to drive to san antonio to jam and record...i'll also be in germany for 2.5 months during the summer, so it's difficult to get anything going at the moment...yeah, we used to jam with a bassist, but then he went fully redneck on us (used to listen to A3 and the Limbs, now listens to Toby Keith)...

If the gov't is doing something I dont like or agree with, i dont vote. I protest. This country was bought and sold years ago that no matter who runs it its still gonna be one big mess. neither one of the candidates are people most of us can agree with 100% so why vote for the lesser of two evils? thats such a cop out and almost a waste to me.

I'm not sure of that, this administration was trying to find a way to go back there from the beginning. There was no reason to attack Iraq. I doubt that those State Department satellite pictures would have changed anybodies mind if they weren't being pushed into it. The State of the Union speech wouldn't have dropped the line about enriching Uranium.

We would be at war, but it wouldn't be in Iraq.

i'm 24 and after a shitty breakup went from 180 to 166 pounds. i've stopped losing weight but i am still a little flabby. how can i harden up my mid section. crunches seem to be working only real slow and really it's not that much. i drink a lot of beer. is my only option to quit all the booze. i do lots of running. 4 miles 5 times a week. any suggestions on how to stop this plateau i've hit and get a little more hard/lean?

For all the politics in punk, It's pretty disappointing that a lot of people here are this cynical about the prospects of voting. Whether or not voting fixes all the bad things about government, which it won't -- Democracy is still the most stable system and will remain so, so you best get with the program, and this particular election cycle will give us a chance to get some things done that would be helpful. The difference between having a Republican agenda and a Democratic agenda is quite large, and I'd prefer the one that isn't devastatingly influenced by religious extremists.

The whole point of democracy isn't stability, it's accountability - something which in itself has a tendency to promote (if not demand) upheaval. This commercial isn't about democracy, and neither is this election... because democracy doesn't end at the voting booth, but the republic does (if it even gets that far). Pointing that out doesn't make someone cynical - it makes them intellectually honest enough to look passed sloganeering and marketing.

I agree 100%, i'm as cynical as it gets sometimes, however in the end cynicism gets you nowhere, excpet for antoher 4 years of GOP theocracy rule.

Get out and vote kids, seriously, if you don't like your local candidates, get involved on the grassroots level and work towards getting your party of choice to select a candidate for your riding who shares your values. Sitting at home and preaching ANRKY4LIFE online isn't going to get you anything.

Anyone with access to Soundscan numbers know how many copies New Wave sold? I know the chart debut at #57 was underwhelming, but they didn't really hit mainstream until Thrash Unreal was a single. Just wondering if it is close to gold and whatnot by now.

I think people obsess over this for no reason. Its simple. I personally think its important to vote as a statement because so many have fought and even died trying to attain that act and even now many are imprisoned and the de facto reason is to prevent them from voting.

However, others are free to feel differently and it won't bother me in the slightest. Its definitely not important to vote for some asshole like Kerry or Gore. Some feel its significant to vote for Obama. Thats OK but they have to know that others are going to point and stare at them for being foolish. I think in a way both sides are right. Its not a two-sided issue.

I also think its important to realize that some don't vote as a boycott. I respect that stance. However, most don't vote because its NOT easy. I can personally attest to police obstruction in Tallahassee

Voting for the lesser of 2 evils proves you don't understand democracy or take it seriously. Vote for who represents you best, even if they have dropped out or can not win. That is how democracy is supposed to work. When you listen to them tell us that we might as well vote for them because the people who will actually help us can't win, we are failing ourselves.

I personally don't give a fuck if they still consider themselves anarchists or not. Abstaining from electoral politics is stems from a particular school of thought in anarchism, and I seriously doubt most of you mother fuckers are anarchists anyway. And if you are you should ask yourselves the following questions: Do you think that you shouldn't vote to help out, or has the anarchist elite told you not to? What exactly do you want

People's ideas change. I know a lot of people who used to be activists who now work at banks. Granted, it's lame, but it's just how people mature. "Axl Rose" was released the better half of a decade ago, with some of the songs having been written a few years before that. "New Wave" wasn't my favorite Against Me! record (not even close), but they're still a legit band. I'm glad some of this shit is getting on the radio, because sometimes my tape deck stops working and I HAVE to listen to the radio (silence doesn't float with me) and if NPR is playing Tavis Smiley, then I listen to the rock station and trust me, even you nay-sayers would prefer to hear "Thrash Unreal" by Against Me! as opposed to "High School was Pretty Rough on Me" by Linkin Park. Long live Against Me!
