You do realize that they put music on shows long after they are taped, right? So they probably did actually record the song but MTV put the finished version over the actual audio because it probably sounded better that way.

MTV used to be cool, back in the 80's & hell, maybe even early nineties, when there was at least some semblance of rejecting at least some aspect of the status quo.
Now it's shitty bands like Cartel doing shit like "Band in a Bubble" (which had a ridiculous sponsorship by Dr. Pepper -- selloutz anyone? -- Granted, Dr. Pepper is damn good soda).

Face it kid, even on TRL they seldom play full videos (granted, the last time I saw TRL was 3 years ago, out of morbid curiosity).

I used to get into an argument all the time with this girl that lived at my house whether it was scripted or not. She always claimed it wasn't; basically she thought it was shot as those events happened.

My major problem with that thought is that they would have to have the best, most invisible cameras ever to shoot from as many directions and with such clarity as they do. Also its still a show about dumbass rich people.

Unfortunately the original show that shit spawned from, Orange County, which was the same exact thing, had a scene that was shot at the store I was working at at the time, and I had to help the girls who were dumb as fuck. Basically a producer came up to me, said they were coming in, and that was it. The scenes are basically scripted, but the dialog was not, trust me, they were idiots and I had no idea what the fuck I was supposed to do since I was actually in the scene. Surreal moment. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure it was the same two girls that walked out on Alkaline Trio.

I understand how genres can get reductive, especially when a new generation of creators grew up on a diet almost exclusively of said genre. I'm not a very good musician - a few aborted attempts at starting folk-punk and blues bands taught me this. But I also didn't try to keep going anyway, copying a few RKL riffs and being yet another awful, generic, boring band.

Although, one of my buddies and I did come up with our own new bold vision for music: Gay Teen Cat Lovers for Christ, an a capella grindcore band. Mostly it consists of one of us growling while the other shrieks as loudly as possible. We figured if we were going to get drunk and yell at teenagers at all ages shows, we might as well do it from a stage. Would you guys open for us? We're totally signing to Epitaph next year.

I don't know. That starts sounding really "things were always better in the past!" curmudgeon-esque to me. There are good bands from all eras of sxe hardcore and punk and blues, but there are also tons of generic shit.
I still really like Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, even though their work in blues isn't that original. Even Vaughan. I mean, there are even good blues players around now. In the same way, I like hardcore bands around now.
But I admit that I still like a lot of generic hardcore. It's just what I can put up with more cliches. The same way you don't like "i don't do drugs" or "I got stabbed in the back" (which I can deal with), I find the cliches in pop punk kind of annoying. Love songs in particular.

I guess it's just music that sounds incomprehensible to me and lyrics that don't really apply to my life. My friends are awesome and drugs are fun and I'm not a violent person unless someone threatens anyone in my family, so that eliminates a lot of the hardcore I used to listen to when I was 14.

I think it's a bit unfair to use the age thing.
And I don't necessarily agree with those things (i don't think I've ever been betrayed by anyone) . I also think people paint hardcore as a lot more violent than it really is. There have been no more fights at a hardcore how I've seen than at a normal punk show.
I don't know, I personally like music that expresses emotion, even if I don't necessarily identify with the exact situation presented. Also, I can listen to music about partying, so straightedge is the opposite side of the same coin.

With punks you can never be too sure. Sorry if I'm coming off as serious of argumentative, I don't mean to be. I'm also not trying to convert you or whatever, so also sorry if it seems like that. It just seemed like an interesting conversation.

As for bands, a couple of good ones are Ambitions, Betrayed, and Battery. All three of those use more melody than what is typical, and don't have song after song about straightedge and the cliches. Or they may, but I've built up an immunity, and don't realize it.

there are all sorts of methods of recording, and back in the day, and sometimes even today (if you are poor or if you are going for a particular sound) sometimes people do just get together and do "live" studio recordings. isolation does lead to cleaner recordings though (at least in theory). too lazy to explain beyond that, sorry.

If your rich and go to good studios. Sometimes its just like a wall infront of the speakers to block the sounds from most of the mics. At least thats how it was with my recording experiences.

I often prefer records recorded as the full band set and think that bands that record like that generally tend to be much much better live.

Not to be pedantic but Skiba is a "Satanist" which is in no way associated with Paganism or worshiping the Devil. Satanism - in the sense that he practices - is when you believe you basically control your own destiny, you contain both good and evil inside and you don't believe in God or the Devil. Paganism is when you believe and worship many, many gods and is an Earth based religion and a Devil Worshiper worships the Christian idea of the Devil.

Three totally separate things.

i'm 24 and after a shitty breakup went from 180 to 166 pounds. i've stopped losing weight but i am still a little flabby. how can i harden up my mid section. crunches seem to be working only real slow and really it's not that much. i drink a lot of beer. is my only option to quit all the booze. i do lots of running. 4 miles 5 times a week. any suggestions on how to stop this plateau i've hit and get a little more hard/lean?
