the Foo Fighters rather unusual (and occasionally hilarious) tour rider has been leaked online. Tour riders are the contractual conditions given to promoters and venues in order to accommodate the band.

By the transitive property of congruence, this means Against Me! officially selloutz. 1+ Reply

I imagine a lot of the wording is done to keep it from being horrifically dry. You have to think there's some dude who's entire job is reading and fulfilling these. If they were all just a check list it'd be easy to zone out and overlook shit. By making it marginally engaging you probably greatly increase your odds of the dude really reading it.

I'd forgotten about the Iggy Pop one that's linked to this one- still the number one rider! 2+ Replies

what a bunch of fucking rock stars.... i used to book small shows and i only had to deal with one rider, through a band on relapse records and it was pretty reasonable. 4+ Replies

That rules. If I was a rock star, my rider would be ridiculous. Blind hookers, monkeys, that kind of thing. 2+ Replies

Awesome. What you have to consider is that promoters of this caliber of show aren't neighborhood kids trying to let a band play. They are businessmen. If bands of this magnitude don't spell out exactly what they want, promoters (not all, but many) will rip them off and pocket even more cash. 4+ Replies

i hear the rider for tiger army is terrible. 5+ Replies

Not really that unreasonable. Most of that stuff seems standard (food, water, beer, ect.) they just spell out exactly what they want, and add some fun to it with things like the DVDs. A lot of strange typing though "Twenty-five (44) people". 1+ Reply

fuck that if i had the power to demand what i wanted, i would do just that

most riders are intentionally ridiculous. alot of the smaller touring bands (at least the ones i've come in contact with) rarely care if they get everything on thier rider, let alone if they remember whats even on the fucking thing. in the end, food and money were the only things that mattered really. 1+ Reply

a few things... one, the smoking gun had the foo fighter's old tour riders up there a long time ago, as well as many other artists/bands/musicians. despite it being their current rider, this isn't really new news. a rider is a standard thing for musicians to have. they are on the road and not in the comforts of their homes, they are playing to packed houses and bringing in thousands of dollars for the venue, they have a crew of people working hard for them. the venue would be empty that night if it weren't for them playing. this is the venue's opportunity to give the musicians their appreciation. lesser known acts, or less popular bands than the foo fighters have riders. they aren't as elaborate, but that's bc they aren't as big of a band. they usually consist of about 100 beers, some liquor, water, tea or coffee, chips or hummus and some show rest of comment 2+ Replies

workin at Hammerstein Ballroom i see these things all the time. Ashlee Simpsons was inane, there was some sort of stuffed animal demanded, very specific to what it was.... Godsmack too, then wanted 25 pairs of different drumsticks, and i bet the drummer just wound up using his own anyway. 1+ Reply

I find it really strange that you can ask for things like clothes.... one way to avoid paying for stuff I guess.

I didn't find this weird or off putting in the slightest. Hell they even try to have fun with it. Keep in mind that these are arena shows where an entire roadcrew has to be fed too. Can you imagine being involved in a huge production like this and having someone half ass you on your daily food. It doesn't take too long to get sick on the road if you're not eating right. On another note I got to go to a couple Green Day shows and experience this shit and it's truly baller. Especially if you're vegetarian. There's nothing like getting to eat a real meal instead of coke and powerbars or french fries.

The funniest part is that there are people saying "what a bunch of assholes for demanding all that stuff". But guess what: The band is the one that ends up paying for it all anyways! That's right! At the end of the night when the show is settled between the promoter and the tour manager, all of these things are taken out of the costs and they end up covering it with show income. It only makes sense. Besides, could you imagine being an insanely popular musician and trying to grocery shop before a show? 1+ Reply

A far cry from the Scream and Sunny Day Real Estate days I'm sure. It's too bad they want all this disposable stuff, they should be greener since Dave is pretty much a hippy anyway.
