Less Than Jake: "Does The Lion City Still Roar?"

Less Than Jake have posted the first new song from their upcoming album and debut for their own Sleep It Off Records. The record is titled GNV FLA and is due out June 24, 2008. The album was recorded with Matt Allison (Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, The Falcon) at Atlas Studios in Chicago.

This song is awesome and further excites me for GNV FLA. I love how it sounds; the brass section hasn't sounded this good since Borders and Boundaries.

The Horns on Borders are actually pretty lame. I think some actually came from a keyboard. The horns on this albums sound much more full like those on "Losing Streak"

I agree. While I am most definitely stoked for LTJ to go back to ska, this sounds much more like C22 than LTJ. Still better than anything they've done in a while though, maybe I won't feel so embarrassed buying this at a store (very embarrassed buying Anthem with that damn She's gonna break soon song).

Dude the song was on TRL. I felt like I was buying an NSYNC cd. Plus I was fucking 16 and yes at that time that is how I felt, but 16 year olds are like that (well I was). Anyway Anthem blew complete ass and you can suck my balls.

It reminds me of post-kalnoky C22 as well, which doesn't really bode well. I always found post-kalnoky C22 kinda boring.

This song is not bad, but it doesn't have any of the trademark LTJ vocal (or horn) hooks.

I'm pretty excited for this album. I predict it will be their third best, behind "Losing Streak" and "Hello Rockview".

And just for shits, "In With The Out Crowd" isn't as bad as everyone says. If you're in a good pop mood, it suits ok. Their worst effort, but I definitely don't mind it.

Doubtful, the two new Alk3 songs suck quite a bit. One sounds like Terror State era Anti-Flag and the other sounds like Journey.

I was just trying to stick with active bands.

I'd also like to note that I'm not talking shit on Rise Against, The Falcon, or Alkaline Trio. I like (or love, whatever) all three of them, I just love Smoke Or Fire, The Lawrence Arms, and The Copyrights more.

But, The Broadways are better than all six.

Also, bologna > roast beef.

Guitars sound nice. I remember Vinnie saying in an interview that he thought the last album was ruined in the mastering process when they slowed it down and sucked out all the energy. Now that I hear what they could have sounded like in different hands, I see what he means.

This song is pretty good and I hope the rest of the album is either better or as good as this one. I also hope Roger sings most of the songs. I like his voice better than Chris's.

roger sounded really strained on the old stuff, but since losing streak (and DEFINITELY since hello rockview) he's overtaken chris in vocal ability. his high harmonies (esp songs like "escape from the a-bomb house") are awsome.

This is ok, I guess. Some of the lyrical content just doesn't flow as well as it should, there are some awkward strings of syllables Chris is singing at points. It's fun... hopefully the album will be better though.

Sounds good. Not great. No better or worse than I expected.
For me, Less Than Jake, could probably never gain back the "magic" that they had when I first heard and saw them back in '96. It's not their fault, but back then, I had not been to many punk shows, and it really made me feel like I was in on something that others weren't. I do look foward to the new record, but I have grown in my taste in music and will probably only listen to the album a few times.

As excited as I am about this album, I'm about a hundred times more psyched about the idea of them playing more shows...

In Britain, anyway, I guess they never really stopped playing shows in the U.S.
