Details for Joy Division biopic, "Control"

Details have been announced for the DVD release of Anton Corbijn's acclaimed Joy Division biopic. The film is titled Control [DVD] and is due out June 03, 2008. The film presents an account of the life and death of Ian Curtis covering his personal battle with epilepsy, romantic troubles with his wife and girlfriend and the overwhelming success of his band, Joy Division. It is based on the account by Curtis' late wife, Deborah and stars Samantha Morton, Sam Riley and Alexandra Maria Lara.

I'm pretty sure this was a feature film and not a documentary.

That is true. There is also a documentary called "Joy Division" being released on DVD on June 17th. That is a really good one also, has interviews with all the living members of the band, some of Tony Wilson's last interviews along wih a lot of crappy and rare but cool video of live stuff with the band.

Yeah, I don't know what happened when I wrote this. I've actually seen the movie too. It's a really beautiful film.

if i like anton corbijn's video/photo work, but only marginally care about joy division, would it be worth it to buy this?

This film actually kickstarted my enjoyment of Joy Division. I was all, yeah I like Love Will Tear Us Apart, but none of their other stuff really grabbed me. After seeing this I listened to pretty much nothing else for a week or two. And I think it's a really well done film regardless of the music, so I would say definitely yes.

LOVE this movie, although unless you dig the time period and music I imagine it could be considered pretty boring. Was also wondering (probably cause I'm not really a Joy Division fan) but was the music in the film actually done just for the film, or are they from the real Joy Division masters?

it was done for the film, by the guys that play the band in the movie.

this film is out on DVD in the UK already. i highly reccomend this film. i thought it was great!
