The Offspring: "Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace"

The Offspring have launched a full album stream of their upcoming full length, Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace. The record itself streets June 17, 2008.

Along with the stream, the band is promising a premiere of their new video on IGN later today at 4pm.

i wish the org had some kind of filter on it, user based, that would enable me to filter out stories about certain bands.

i think the only problem i see with that, is that i'd miss out on everyone's cheerful banter.

The bridge in Stuff Is Messed Up when he starts spitting fast lyrics is killer.

I just took a long drive on my break at work listening to most of it on my iPod and woo hoo!

I was getting tired of the "Americana template" from the last 3 albums. I'm glad this one kinda kicks your ass with fast stuff early on and then gets all "No Substance" after that.

I just finished it. Why do all the bands that broke the whole pop punk trend in the 90's now do this? It feels weird to say this, but this record strikes me as the poor mans American Idiot. I like it alright, but the Offspring have never really blown up skirt.

All things Offspring considered this is a good release in my opinion. I'll tell you what, a band i love puts out a bad release its not that i love them any less it just makes me sad. Splinter made me sad. Probably all of you too. But this is good Conspiracy (sort of) meets ixnay sounding. Smash days are over, but as they should be. The worst band is the one who puts out the same record 5 times.

Stuff is Messed Up is the surprise song on the album. I really thought this was gonna be a crappy joke song and it turns out it's really good.

I just don't care anymore. This is pretty solid as opposed to their last two or three albums, but I think I am just too old. I love SMASH and whatnot, but I am not sure that if that album came out for the first time today if I'd care. Still I was a super Offspring from 6th grade to about junior year of high school.

Their best effort in a while. The "pop" influence is a lot more prevalent on certain songs, but the traditional "offspringish" stuff is their hardest sounding stuff in a while.

yeah, just as i expected when i heard the samples. the album that i thought was gonna be the best comeback has been the opposite. the worst downfall. a lot of these songs are a major low for them, like they are trying way too hard to be mainstream. i thought the absence of a poppy rap song as the first single was gonna make things different. nope. meh i kinda wanted a fast kickass offspring cd. there are a lot of great songs, dont get me wrong, just not what i was hoping for with hammerhead. i still love them, they got me into punk kinda.

The verses, the drums, n guitar, u can actualy sing american idiot to it.
Wait for the guitar solo, pure american idiot..(the song)

AND even it all stops, like the 'its callin out to idiot america' part.
also when it kix bk in its same chord pattern for chorus.

Now i wouldnt be so angry about this, if the Offspring weren't such twats about Green Day. Basically, this interviewer wnated to interview bands regarding Green Days success and impact on music, and they got to interview loads of good bands, but the offspring were like 'nah fuck are we talking about THAT band'... hmmm jealousy, coz The offspring released to many lame ass singles. they suck.

The track Rise and Fall does sound similar to another song, and it's not American Idiot, its called Doublewhiskeycokenoice by D4 (a song published far before American Idiot was released).

Even more laughable is that you seem to think that "Stop" has an original sounding drum beat, seriously guy, stop using the internet.

no shit, i love Dillinger Four, one of my favourite bands, but i dont think Green Day sat down and thought lets fuck over D4,as they're friends, fuckwad. they toured Japan together. Where as you can tell the Offspring have gone, ooo that formula works, DO IT.

Uh, does being friends suddenly absolve them of the fact that American Idiot sounds very similar to the D4 song? Plus, your argument would hold up better if Rise and Fall was a single, it isn't, and it will never be, it's simply an album track. Seriously, a Green Day fan is in no position to start accusing other bands of ripping them off, considering how many songs on AI sound “similar” to music by other bands.

It's not like the D4 song was beethoven. I don't think American Idiot was a ripoff at all. It's a similar riff, vaguely similar verse structure, but neither is hardly unique enough to warrent these claims.

But, maybe I'm just sick of the D4 gang bang.

This album isn't bad, but it's bad for The Offspring. The depressing thing is that the good songs are the ones that they rip off from their own back catalog. Plus sounding like Green Day in places is not good. Best songs are Hammerhead and Trust In You. Trust In You sounds like Americana stuff which is good, pity the rest of the album doesn't sound like that. I don't get where Dexter thinks this sounds like Ixnay On The Hombre. If you take out Half-Truism, You're Gonna Go Far Kid, Kristy Are You Doing Ok, Fix You then it isn't too bad. Even though the rest of the songs are ok, it's just pretty poor for The Offspring. If the band had any dignity left they'd quickly put back the release date of the album until November and go and spend the summer grinding out another ten good songs to go with Hammerhead and Trust In You which are the only two songs that really merit th

Ripping off Green Day, The Living End, Coldplay and even Snow Patrol (what is going on there) it's appauling. If I was going to Download this weekend I'd be hoping for Hammerhead, Trust In You, Stuff is Messed Up, all of Ixnay on the Hombre, the good songs off Smash, Americana, Conspiracy of One, Splinter. No point in mentioning the other two as they won't play anything from those.

Maybe this is good though, Less Than Jake had to release the worst album ever to finally realise that people hated them for it and they know they'll be villified if they don't deliver this time around. Listen to A Lot Like Me (clearly rips off Gone Away). Just stop guys, stop now. Ask for Ron's forgiveness and put out a f****ng balls to the wall Offspring punk record, please? lol.

first 4 or five tracks aren't bad, then the album just drops off completely...i mean the last track sounds like something from the greenday vault...not enough rage in the album, maybe a little more grace would have helped...you rise somewhat but completely fall off the charts..
