The Ataris have announced plans to begin demoing for their next full length at The Gallows Recording Studio. The studio s owned and operated by Chris and Bryan from The Widow Jenkins(ex Emery/Brazil), and is based in Muncie, IN. The band plans to begin the formal recording process later this summer and are aiming for an early 2009 release.
Interestingly, the band appears to be self-funding the endeavour and frontman Kris Roe has launched an auction to help raise money. Among the items set for auction are Radiohead Tickets, guitar effects pedals and Kris' entire 1500-CD strong CD collection. The auction is here. The band also recently promised that the new album would see return to their Blue Skies, Broken Hearts - Next 12 Exits.../End is Forever-era sound. Last year, they released Welcome the Night. I'd be surprised if it was a return. All the bands that ruled in the 90s say this now and even if it is, it's boring usually 2+ Replies

Okay...so why aren't they just playing shows? You know, like a band usually would have to do. 1+ Reply

I was lucky enough to have seen Jawbreaker in 1995 when they opened for the Foo Fighters and The Amps in San Antonio, so I would never have to say that some shitty band like this got me into Jawbreaker. 4+ Replies

The fact that his collection of records that he has collected all of his life isn't even up to a grand depresses me, i feel really bad for this guy.

If this is an honest return to the old sound, and not a forced one, I welcome it. But I'd also be happy if they continued with and got better at the sound on Welcome The Night.
This band got me into Jawbreaker back in the day, and, for that, I am forever grateful.
