Valient Thorr singer films kidney-donation video diary

Valient Himself, singer of Volcom Entertainment rock band Valient Thorr, recently filmed a video diary as he prepared to donate his kidney to his ailing father. You can see the eight-minute film, sponsored by Alternative Press right here.

Valient Thorr released Immortalizer this year and are on tour in Europe. They will be returning home to the United States in early July where they have a full tour lined up.

Sorry, can't do that, but I can safely say it's everything I hoped it would be....and I've only listened to the first 5 tracks. I was going to buy it anyways, but the chance to hear it this early, I couldn't say no.

I have to say (and this is not a joke) I have to see this impacting the bands live show. I'm not saying he shouldn't do it (I'd give my heart to my father if I thought it would help) but I know Valiant Thorr are know for their insane live show and I'd have to imagine I'd be a little more careful if I thought, "Damn...only one kidney, can't fuck it up". I know a lot of contact sports athletes stop if they only have one.

Regardless, that's a great thing to do and I hope his dad gets the most out of it.

Their live show was a very odd match for Warped Tour (which is where I saw them - played right before Motion City Soundtrack), but all of them seemed to sincerely love what they were doing. I think they'll still be able to play. I don't remember their show incorporating a lot of unintentional collisions, which is the real danger in pro sports for athletes who would try to come back from that sort of procedure.

And I'll second your praise and good wishes for the guy; even if it's your father, the decision still takes guts.

I understand Dante's point, but then I also think of Sean Elliott and Alonzo Mourning, who both came back to the NBA after receiving a donated kidney. If I'm not mistaken, 'Zo won the NBA championship a couple years After the transplant with the Heat.

You're perfectly healthy with one kidney- people basically have two as a backup. Psychologically I suppose it could have some effect, but physically there wouldn't be any.

I respect this band sooo much as it is and to see him doing this for his father deserves another notch on the "Holy Shit, this Band is so Bad Ass" belt. Good luck and get well soon.

I think it's awesome that he did this for his father, or as he calls him, his "Earth father".

I interviewed the dude last week, it was a phoner while he was in Plymouth. These guys are one of the craziest bands out there, I really hope this kidney doesn't physically slow him down in the future.

good for him, i understand that it's his father, but it's still good to see people help others out like that. i didn't watch the video, but has the procedure already occured? if it hasn't, i hope everything goes (or went) well and they both have a safe and healthy recovery.

That's pretty rad. Saw these guys at Fest V. The lead singer hurled in one of the audience members mouth. And the guy liked it.

Seen VT a few times, last time being a year ago wtih Riverboat Gamblers. Valient Thorr has an "emusic-exclusive" liveset that I donwloaded last year, and Valient Himself mentions his (earth) father's triple bypass just that day while introducing "Tough Customer". When I talked to him after the show last year, I asked about his father, and he mentioned that there were ongoing health problems, and became visibly shaken a bit thinking about it.

Wishing the best for him and his family. A speedy recovery for both.

And my undying respect, as well.
