Media: Bloc Party: "Mercury"

Bloc Party have posted a stream of their new single, "Mercury." The track follows their previous single, "Flux" another track which the band released independently of an album.

The band is working on their next full length, with frontman Kele Okereke commenting:

We're in the middle of it. we're still writing and working on it so it's quite hard to have an overview really, we are making the record i always wanted us to make so we just can't wait for it to be done.

Mercury has a very eccentric (long circle) orbit and orbits the sun at a different speed than Earth, so at certain periods in the year, it appears to make a loop in the sky when viewed from Earth.

Retrograde is the period of time when the planet appears to be going the "wrong" way.

I have no idea what Kele is using this as a metaphor for though.

I hate silent alarm, love weekend in the city, like flux alot, and think this is pretty shit. A step in the wrong direction, new Bloc Party stuff could easily have been so awesome.

Silent alarm was a great album. Weekend in the city never stuck, this sounds like eurotrash dance music. Maybe they can tour with AFI now.
