Rock the Vote has announced their 2008 band competition. Dubbed "DemROCKracy," the competition allows bands to sign up to win a change to play at Rock the Vote's Ballot Bash 2008 in Denver, CO; other bands will win some huge prizes as well, in the order of new Gibson guitars, and placement on TouchTunes digital jukeboxes around the country..
This competition is a great way for smaller up-and-coming bands to gain national exposure while doing something positive as the group works to register two million young voters in one of the most important elections in years. Any musician or band can sign up by visiting here. More than 2000 bands have already signed up. Politics (54 comments)

This is nothing but blatant editorial advertising for the upcoming election. How dare you punknews? Where is my report from the front lines of the Bane pit? 5+ Replies

I would suggest conservativepunk.com suggest some bands, but they seem to have left music by the wayside.

I guess you could consider playing at Rock the Vote's Ballot Bash 2008 winning a change.

People in general are misinformed drones. Your vote DOES NOT matter. Your a fucking sheep that gets to pick between a pile of cat shit and a pile of dog shit. Teaching young people that their vote matters is just creating a new leigon of idiots that think that "democracy rules" 10+ Replies

I've only really paid attention to the '04 election and this year's, but it seems like every year is one of the most important elections in a long time. 3+ Replies

I'll consider it important when they start showing the other parties that are running instead of this bullshit 2 party system they ram down people's throats. 2 sides of the same damn coin. 2+ Replies

Rock the Vote isn't about getting more people to vote, it's all about convincing young people to vote Democrat. Totally punx.

probably the biggest reason why americans and to a lesser extent canadians are turned off to voting is because of voter antipathy, not voter apathy. that is, because of the winner-takes-all style of elections we have in america certain areas are dominated by one party and people who may have differing political sentiments feel their vote is worthless. it's not that people don't care, it's that people feel the system is rigged against them and get turned off to the "democratic process."

There is very little difference between the two major parties other than how they present their sales pitch. I'm voting 3rd party for the first time in my life. I know they won't win, but even if I can help them get a significant percentage it will help to change things. It's not like we have a bad law set in this country, it's just that we have a complete lack of leadership. We elect politicians rather than professional statesmen. For some people, everyone has the Jerry Springer mentality when it comes voting. We'd sooner elect celebrities like Obama or McCain than vote for someone with actual leadership experiance in running a large organization. The USA is the largest organization in the world, you'd think we'd want to elect someone competent at running large organizations successfully. You know, maybe a guy like Jack Welch, Michael Bloomberg show rest of comment 1+ Reply

"Demrockracy" sounds like something Scooby Doo or that dog from the Jetsons would say.
