Nitro to re-issue Jughead's Revenge catalog through iTunes

Los Angeles, CA's Jughead's Revenge will have their albums Image Is Everything, Just Joined, and Pearly Gates re-issued through Nitro via iTunes. The albums had been out of print due to a lawsuit with Archie comics, which has since been resolved, leaving the band to change their name to Jugg's Revenge.

The band has been on an undetermined hiatus since 1999.

No record should be completely out of print. I understand labels not wanting to repress something that didn't sell a whole lot, but electronically? What is there to lose?

It's not necessarily a label's lazyness that leaves records out of print; sometimes band members can't decide or agree on represses, can't be tracked down or simply don't want to get into the whole digital mess. Can you get Amebix or Tragedy records on iTunes?

Got to love the link to "Pearly Gates" has a comment by someone claiming to be Joe D (no way to verify on my end) who posts this:
I was the singer of a band called Jughead's Revenge from 1989 ~ 2000. One would think by now that either one: a band is forgotten accept for a fewer number of fans where other have moved on to whatever they do with they're lives. Or two: at least know the truth and history about the band that they like, or liked. Theres no real middle-ground on that.

Between Myspace, and this site, It's amazing that only lies and assumptions make up the profile of the band. Ten years isn't a short span of time to make records, tour etc.. One would think that "official" reports on the band (ie: The Archie Comics statment) that someone would have at least tried to reach us for comment. I had to come to them just to defend myself, that of whi

1) I know Punknews doesn't make shit from ads. It's mostly just to cover costs.
2) If you railed against a site so hard why continue to submit news to them about a label (you claim to hate) rereleasing your stuff?

Here's an idea, let's start an incredibly sub-mediocre sounding so-cal band with the name of a copyrighted comics character and furthermore sell merchandise with said character's likeness.

It's amazing they even lasted 10 years.

I don't even knoe where to start. Archie comics sent an order to stop selling the shirt that i told Nitro NOT to sell in the first place. We were NEVER told about the first and second notices. Then we are served at our homes saying we are being sued. So we call Nitro about getting this figured out. Nitro then told us that we are on our own.. after we told them not to sell that thing in the first place.

Archie Comics are a right-wing company that specificly quoted our lyrics and songs titles saying we were "immorral" and that they wanted nothing to do with people like us. Don't be fooled by this letter making it seem like".. gee we just didnt know why they ignored us.." they sent a book of examples why they hated us.

As far as Nitro goes. Dexter Holland and Dave Recee are spineless jokes to think they helped in anything. I called guttermouth, afi and the vandals leaving a year before, they left because they knew Nitro SUCKS...!!! They are a retarded exuse for a lable. It should be named "tax write-off" records. They fucked us over and fed us to the lions after 12 years of touring and contributing to the punk scene. To add insult to injury...they even sold the rest of our CD's online for TWO DOLLARS...!! What was left the THREW AWAY..!!!! They are exactly what is killing off punk rock.

The comp for me was the one with the intestine image on the actual CD. I think it was called "The Thought Remains the Same". So many good tracks on that comp. It's what introduced me to Jughead.

Jughead's Revenge always played rad live shows.

The three best undiscovered punk records:

1) Showcase Showdown - Permanent Stains

2) Jughead's Revenge - Just Joined

3) Heckle - We're Not Laughing With You

Early Jughead's Revenge material was unlistenable, but Image Is Everything is a great hardcore record and Pearly Gates has some really good melodic trax.

I really like Heckle.

I think the one of the most undiscovered band is Zoinks!. Maybe I'm wrong about how popular they were, but they really put out some great stuff.

Zoinks were awesome. There was another similar and un-google-able band called "whatever" that put out a fucking awesome lp then they were signed to Dr Strange and put out another LP and it stunk the room up. That was sad.

I think the first Scared of Chaka record was their best sound (but I like the Mummies and Rip Offs so don't take my word)

Brown Lobster Tank were pretty good in their own BigDrillCar-esque way.

sweet, i loved heckle. saw them with jugheads revenge roughly in 1996/97.

i still listen to them on a fairly regular basis, gets shuffled into my workout mix while i'm running

I actually have all their nitro cd's since Nitro dumped them at like $5 each. It's listenable average 90's punk. I wonder if they never used the Jughead logo, they might have gotten away with it. Anyway who knows if fall out boy will get sued for their name being very close to Fallout Boy from the simpsons?

Fall Out Boy were going to release of Fall out Boy comic book but were unable to because Bongo Comics, founded by Matt Groening to release Simpsons (and later Futurama) comics, already has the trademark to comics named "Fallout Boy."

I would think that if there was anyway to sue the band over the use of the name in the music realm that either Matt Groening would've done it already, or he simply doesn't care. I think as long as they don't sell merch with Fallout Boy and Radioactive man on it they'd be fine.

On Christmas of 2000, I got my first car.
It was a white two door 1991 Mercury Cougar.
Perfect for back seat of the car sex which, in high school, happened quite a bit.
I also got my first Jughead's Revenge cd that day, "Pearly Gates."
I was listening to Pearly Gates during my first minor car wreck and, because I'm kinda superstitious, was always weary of playing the cd in my car again.

Just thought I'd share that little story with you guys.

On a side note, there was something really radical about buying a five dollar comp with a bunch of bands you'd never heard and thinking it was the greatest thing ever. Fuck, I think I'm getting older...

I hear ya. I miss those "DON'T BUY FOR MORE THAN $4.98 stickers on the comp and listening to new shit that blew your mind. I guess, now, record labels just find it more efficient to use myspace/itunes to spread new music. =(

I broke my arm playing CHIPS as a kid and for some strange reason that made me like that horible show more. So I really liked the CHIPS clip and cover song on "Image is Everything". William Forsythe playing a punk rocker is on the cover too. Sold my copy a long time ago for beer money. I wish I still had it.

Basically the story goes Jughead's is uber pissed off by Dexter because he dicked them over by failing to tell the band about a lawsuit that was pending. So instead of trying to work out the problem, Dexter just wrote it off and the next thing you know is the court ordered the band to stop using the name without the band even getting a chance to have their say.

I saw them on snow jam a long time ago and they straight blew away straight face and guttermouth! I didn't know too much about them till that tour and hung out with the guitar player all night and found they were cool dudes... I have followed this band since that time and after their lawsuit, they get a lot of grief for no reason! Like em or hate em, they were raped by a major corporation! PERIOD!

I go on punknews.org and dont know half of the bands on here, this is a great way to educate on the history and currect status of punk. Why would anyone talk shit about a band when there is just a blurb about someothing going on!

I hear that Two of the guys from the original line up of Jughead's Revenge are in the band GG Elvis and the TCP Band and are going to Eroupe in September. The new cd Back from the Dead is pretty amazing and just came out this summer. you can find them on-line. Didn't Jughead tour in 2001 with the offspring?
