Filmmaker Colin Brunton has announced that the historic 1978 Canadian punk documentary short The Last Pogo will finally see a DVD release on October 18th. The show documents a December 1st, 1978 show at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern. Billed as "the last punk show in Toronto," it featuring first wave Canuck punk bands such as Teenage Head, the Viletones, the Ugly, the Cardboard Brains, the Secrets, the Scenics and the Mods. Brunton was on hand to film the performances, the crowd reaction and the police and firefighters who arrived on hand to put a stop to the riotious show and remove people from the premises. Aside from bootlegs and a screening at 2008's NXNE, the film has not been available in nearly 30 years.
The documentary is augmented with footage of a 1978 show by the Scenics, commentary by Chris Haight of the Secrets, and a photo slideshow by Edie Steiner.
Colin Brunton served as a producer on films Roadkill and Highway 61, as an executive producer of Cube, directed Duality Of Self and is currently producing hit Canadian TV comedy Little Mosque On The Prairie. He's currently working on The Last Pogo Jumps Again, a retrospective that tracks down everyone from that night from the bands to the audience to the police. It's set for a March 2009 release.

CUBE?! awesome. altho, the sequels were less than stellar, the opening scene of that movie had me. totally had me. this should be an interesting documentary. i know next to nothing about canadian punk. (um...doa is from there, right?) i also think it's awesome that he'll be/he is tracking down the people from that night. including the cops in his search is an amazing idea, which i don't think has happened in too many other "where are they now" type shows. i watched adoc about punk in LA (no, not Decline) in the early 80's, and they had all kinds of parents, kids, cops, and counselors talking about what an evil this punk rock music is, and how it's gonna destroy youth...i wonder where those people are now. not so much the kids, as i'm guessing most of them either died or are living fairly healthy lives, but the adults who were so hellbent of ridd show rest of comment 2+ Replies
