Jello Biafra, Ike Reilly appearing with Ralph Nader at "Super Rallies"

NOFX and Rage Against the Machine might be playing beside various political conventions this year, but songwriter Ike Reilly and troublemaker Jello Biafra are actually getting asked on stage. Well, kind of. This election cycle Ralph Nader is back with Matt Gonzalez (who unsuccessfully ran for mayor against Gavin Newsome in San Francisco) as his running mate and they'll be holding "Super Rallies" outside the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. The purpose of these "Super Rallies" is to serve as "a call for opening the presidential debates."

Still performing beside the convention, I guess, but at least on stage with candidates will be Biafra, Reilly and other notables such as Nellie McKay, Val Kilmer, Tom Morello, and Cindy Sheehan. Details can be found at VoteNader.org.

Another thing that actually OFFENDS me, which is hard to to these days, are the people who are pissed that musicians make money. The strange, slow, old people on punknews.org and the few annoying stragglers on this website.

so what do all ye americans think of joe biden then? anyone else think it could prove counter-productive that they are advocating how much of a 'foreign policy expert' he is... while at the same time he voted FOR the iraq war... sounds like ammunition for mccain if you ask me.

He's not going to energize the progressive base; however he brings a lot of positives. First off, he's an old, white man, who will make it easier to win over older white voters, a demographic that Obama has struggled with. Furthermore he does bring foreign policy experience. Obama's staff are pretty smart people, they wouldn't have selected him if they didn't think he was the best choice.

I personally thought Wesley Clark was going to get it due to his war record/ Clinton connection, or even Tim Kaine due to him being a favorite son of Virginia. My preferred choice would have been Jim Webb, that guy's a fucking pit bull.

Another thing is that Biden is a safe bet, not going to piss off the Left or the Right. If Obama had picked any women, the GOP war machine would have painted the ticket as feminine, as the did with Edwards in 04, they can't do that with Biden.

And progressives shouldn't feel disappointed with him at all, he is one of the least wealthy men in the Senate (he has a mortgage and commutes to DC via train) Biden maintains 100 percent ratings from Planned Parenthood, the League of Conservation Voters, Citizens for Tax Justice, the Children's Defense Fund and the NAACP; and 93 percent from the AFL-CIO

yea, it's pretty obvious that they really considered demographics as the main critera for who they appointed. i mean he's old/white and has the 'working class' background along with 30 years experience... these are all things obama has been critisised for being without - too young, too inexperienced, too black (the whole 'hussein' thing). the degree to which it is about personality is pretty shocking though. it seems to me that the average american couldn't give a rats ass about serious policy issues..

Do you think it's better to vote for Nader or McKinney? The only real reason I can see for Nader to run anymore would be if he ran for the Greens because he's got that name recognition, so I don't really understand his candidacy, but I just don't know all that much about politics.

I think I'm voting McKinney.

My favorite part is in the last few days' runup to the election where doesn't really sleep and shows up at rallies with his tie askew and his eyes all bleary and his hair messed up and he mumbles like a crazy street person. VOTE GREEN Y'ALL!

I was talking to a German coworker and he said they don't hold primaries in Germany. They have five political parties and the heads of each party nominate their candidate and then all five run for president.
He asked why we don't do that here. I told him because we essentially have a two (or one) party system and our politics are controlled by big business and special interest groups. Then we both got kind of quiet and sad.

Germany is an awesome exception, but most countries have two strong parties (although two parties better than ours). Canada essentially has two, I'd say the UK has 2.5, Sweden has two. The difference being corporate control here is really ridiculous.

Well, with Canada the NDP nor the Bloc will have a chance of forming the government; however they can wield enough power to influence the government, ie like we've seen during the current minority government. And a vote for the NDP is not necessarily throwing your vote away (like Americans often do by voting Green).

Cynthia McKinney hates white people. And I really hate using the racist card, but sometimes it's necessary. There are countless documented moments where McKinney has said and done things that are counter to the Green Party.

What you don't realize is the level of corruption in the 2 party system.
Go research and check out the Democratic convention rallys from 1996, 2000, 2004..nothing has changed! Still promising us the same stuff but they FAIL TO DELIVER.
Now the Democrats who were cheated this year by the selected one are chanting Ralphs Mantra,
