Red Scare plans Swingin' Utters tribute

Red Scare has announced plans to release a tribute to Swingin' Utters. The label explained:

Probably one of the most important punk bands to me and Red Scare, and in short, it's an honor to be involved with this. There's lotsa great bands offering up a song and you know we're gonna do right by the legendary SF punk band. We're thinking it's going to be called "Untitled 21" and look for it sometime in 2009!

Bands have already begun recording, but no word on who those bands actually are yet.

the only swingin utters songs i'm really familiar with are "five lessons learned" (thank you tony hawks games!!!), and "i follow."

i'd totally love to hear anchor arms cover FLL.

But in all seriousness, I love Social D and a tribute would be awesome and I agree that it's time is overdue. Loved Ones and Gaslight come to mind as appropiate bands to cover them.

They've been around for a while. Why not? If anything, I predict next year there will be a Bouncing Souls tribute. 20th anniversary.

Because they're still together, even though not super active. I just look at tributes as something you do for defunct bands.

They had tribute albums out already for Sick Of It All, Green Day and Weezer. There might have been a Rancid one as well. But there's also one for Jawbreaker and the Smoking Popes, but I'm not sure if those were made after the bands split.

Yeah, they've been tribute albums for Blink, too, that doesn't mean it isn't super lame. The Weezer one also came out while the band was broken up. Sick of it All was celebrating the bands 20th anniversary, as all.

Singer from the Utters, Mr. Peebucks, did a brief stint with Dropkick Murphys back in the day before they picked up Al Barr.
By brief, I mean one show.

Yeah, there's all sortsa band involved. We'll see who comes through when all the dust has settled. Count on all the Red Scare bands to be aboard cuz I can yell at them and guilt trip them. We've had everybody from Dropkick Murphys to American Steel to Riverboat Gamblers to OWTH say they are offering songs. We shall see!

Well, since this story has been posted we have been contacted by Fucked Up, which is really neat. I also received a song that is already in the can from that great band Smalltown from Sweden. They did "politician" and it came out fantastic.
