Tim Barry recently spoke to Andy Thomas for the Vinyl Collective podcast. In the interview, Tim talks about his forthcoming full length, Manchester, (due out November 4, 2008) and also about the future of his other band, Avail.

I think they played "we want to get famous" pop punk. My friend is such a good musician but that band is fucking terrible. They might play some ska. I never stuck around long enough to find out. They were on the warped tour though :p

So I've surmised you love 90's emo like Matt loves crack, and I'd like to hear more because I've really been getting into that "genre." I know some of the bigger ones like Texas Is The Reason, Braid, Christie Front Drive, etc. but what other suggestions do you have?

Once you get into that stuff dig up any and all things by Mike Kirsch. First Pinhead Gunpowder record, Fuel -monuments to excess (its amazing), Torches to Rome (spastic and insane), Navio Forge, Bread and Circuits...
If you dig Jawbreaker, find Hellbenders last 2 lps "con limon" and "footprint of the american chicken" and the Algebra One discography.

Agreed about Chisel. Though, I don't really see 8 AM All Day as "emo" either.

Well its not completely, but there is definitely an emo influence. Thats the beauty about Chisel. It mixes mod, punk, hardcore, emo, pop, and indie together and works somehow. Seriously, Chisel is one of the best bands ever. So under appreciated.

If you like Braid at all, pick up Bob Nannas other band 'friction' their discography isn't hard to find and it fucking kills.

Also ex Braid is 'Very Secretary' and 'Hey Mercedes' (which is way poppy).

Offers open if you can't dig stuff up. I'm all about paying artists, some of this stuff is impossible to find and out of print.

my manager at work turned me onto Squirrel Bait tonight. they are incredible. some of the guys went on to form Slint and one guy was in the Breeders for a while. they were a super underrated 80's band who set the stage for a lot of the great 90's emo bands like Elliott (who's early output is also something you should check out)

The old guy in front of me at the stop light this morning had a license plate that read IAM 4 GOD...but the 4 was right in the center on top of the big picture of the orange for FL, so it was sorta hard to catch on the first pass, and so I thought this old guy with the IAM GOD license plate was pretty badass for a second there.

every avail album is so good.

i think it could be argued that each one is better than the last (although i dont think many people would argue that)

i'm willing to wait for a new album, as long as its coming.

if we dont hear something in a year and a half, i'm ready to take hostages

Saw the Revival Tour last night. Show was great. Except all the trains stopped running right after the show and I was stranded in Boston. Ended up sleeping in Boston and catching the 5:00 AM train back home, then had to go to school at 7:00. All in all.. it was worth it.

Well, there goes my hopes for a new Avail record any time soon! To anyone who cares that didn't listen to the podcast Tim basically says he has no plans to do anything with Avail in the near future as two of the members of the band have jjust had children and Tim pretty much considers Avail a part-time project while his solo material is his full-time thing!

Has anyone watched the movie [REC] that Quarantine is a remake of? I just found out about it, supposed to be way better and scary as fuck, but it's not available on Netflix for some reason.....is it worth hunting down before Halloween?

I'm really disappointed that netflix doesn't have it available. I've also been trying to look for Ghost in the Shell, also not available. Netflix needs to man up.

Sucks about Funny Games, I wanted to watch it. I won't take it off my queue though, regardless.
