I guess it's sad that the voice of truth and reason comes from cartoon children, but that's the state of American politics and always will be unless something changes and more voices are actually heard, rather than one voice with a few slight changes that make it sound like two voices.

My point is, that it's really NOT the state of American politics. It's two incredibly biased, miseducated cartoonists (I do cartoons as well. I am not slighting the profession.) drastically oversimplifying something very important for a joke. Yes, there is truth in it. But it is naive, lazy and dangerous to claim that interpretation is the end of the story.

Atleast South Park got nailed it. It should be pretty obvious by now that the two party system is a complete failure and we've been offered up the choice between two career politicians rather than actual leaders.

The past 16 years should be proof positive that both parties have zero interest in anything other than their own power. Bush was a horrendous misrepresentation of true conservative values just like the current Democratic congress has done absolutely nothing for the people they are supposed to represent. What's their approval rating right now, 15%?

It's 3rd party for me this time around. Regardless of who you like, both major candidates are part of the same problem which is the 2 party system. How is it that all the supposed punks accept a duopoly on political power when the same types of entities in the private sector would make you furious?<

but.

i saw the 2004 election as a lot more important. i think bush is/was much more dangerous, evil, and incompetent than mccain is, especially when he was going into a second term.

actually this election is fairly unimportant. as far as elections go. just harper and the conservatives trying to win a majority this time around. it's essentially happening due to a vote of non-confidence based on the budget.
the conservatives will win because the liberal leader is an idiot. and there are too many rich old people and stupid poor people who vote conservative.
not to mention not enough people give good ol' jack and the NDP the time of day.

I think that Dion gets and incredible amount of media bias against him which gives people this perception that he's this some sort of half-wit, take for example the language issue Harper and the other leaders speak French like he speaks English, not very well, but you won't hear that on CTV. In reality, i find him to be one of the most intelligent and sincere members of public office in this country.

To be fair, CTV covered Harper's plagiarism for days, but Dion's got a brief mention on Mike Duffy. The media has also been known to criticize Harper for shaking his son's hand after walking him to school, so no, the bias thing isn't accurate.

For the record, I am not saying anything about how I voted. Just decided I would point this out.

Ah, but the plagiarism thing was a legit criticism. He lifted that speech word for word. I'm not going to say that Harper doesn't get his fair share of shit, but he’s not doing too badly either, the country’s largest newspaper just gave him an open endorsement. I still feel Dion gets a disproportionally large amount of media bias directed towards him.

Have you seen his platform, though? There is no way the country can afford an NDP government. Especially given the current financial situation.

He wants to make Punjabi the third official language of Canada. Sure, I can see how it might have a minor benefit on immigration... but Punjabi? The Official language of Canada? No wonder people don't give him the time of day. I was supporting him for a good portion of the election, and some point, I just couldn't anymore.

Gruber as a running mate? Really? That's worse than Palin.

I don't. It was just something my friend randomly leaned over and said to me in middle school 14 years ago.

I think there's a lot people in this country that are basically voting AGAINST Harper. If enough of these people put their votes behind the Liberals, it might be closer than expected. All I know is I'll be glued to the tv like an election day nerd once some of the polls start closing.

I voted Green, because I think that if people realize that other folks are actually voting green, the incentive for them to follow the same road is greater. Most people consider the Green Party a waste of a vote, because they will never win, but I'd like to see the Green party win a couple of seats this election.

In hindsight, I probably should have voted Liberal because the Liberal candidate in my riding had the greatest chance of winning the seat currently occupied by the asshead Finance Minister, Jim Flaherty, who I hate like it's my profession.

I am still not sure who I am going to vote for, but I think you did the right thing by voting for what you believe in. I don't believe in strategic voting. If people all voted for the party which best represented their needs, it would expose true issues and concerns and then parties can see where they can improove. Voting to make sure someone does not get elected does not help democracy as a whole. Sure the Conservatives may win because the left was split, but at least if 10 -20% of people vote for the Green Party, or NDP, the leaders can look at that and say, "What are they doing? What can we change to get their vote"
