Ashtray releases "Operation Ivy" covers record

Santa Rosa, CA's Ashtray have planned a special live album titled Operation Ashtray. The disc will feature an entire set of Operation Ivy covers recorded at Danny from The Secretions' "Lame Ass Birthday Bash." The entire event was a benefit for The American Cancer Society.

The band's label, Silver Sprocket, had the show professionally recorded, and have just released a live album of their entire set, with all profits being donated to The American Cancer Society. The album is a limited pressing of 1,000 CDs with a fold-out poster insert containing photos from the show, personal messages and lyrics, available now for $5 from the Silver Sprocket store.

Yeah, I know what you are saying. But I've got the same musical tastes, so I usually get all of his weird references (good or bad).

I still want to compile all the columns. I don't know how many volumes it would take, but I'd like to do something like print it up at 6 point type.

did you ever see the one where he talked about methods of organizing records other than alphabetical?

he ended up with a system that worked much like a computer/typewriter keyboard. he had a shelf that was 4 shelves high. the top shelf had bands that started with numbers. underneath that was bands that started with q, w, e, r, t, y, etc...

so damn good.

The entire show was local bands performing entire sets as bands they were inspired by. Kepi from The Groovie Ghoulies teamed up with The Secretions to be The Ramones, other bands were The Clash, Decedents, and Sex Pistols. This wasn't a regular thing at all.

a band called the Bradleys from bloomington, in did an op ivy cover set for halloween last year. shit was off the hook - always fun to sing along to those songs no matter who's playing them

I think it sounds great, maybe I'm biased as a fan of the band (and, the kid who put out the record), the sound does get a whole lot better though another song or two into it.
