Personally, I think Green Day stand a better chance of being that gateway band altogether. In fact, I say that knowing they are the reason I got into punk rock at all. I just don't think Anti-Flag have it in them to be that way.

He's not a socialist at all, but theres nothing wrong with socialism, people in the U.S. seem to have no idea what socialism is and fail to realize that the majority of the parties on the left in Europe are Socialist parties (yes yes, I know the America is not Europe and I hate when people try to do the comparisons, I was just giving an example), even the Labour party of England is still emotionally a socialist party.

Socialism just doesn't have a strong ideological history in the United States as it does other places.

It probably has a lot to do with the Cold War, now Communism is very different then socialism, but the two were tied very closely together in the US during the Cold War.

Obama isn't anymore socialist then any other Democrats, in fact Obama ran a very centrist campaign, which is why he won.

He's not a socialist, but it's handy to brand even central ideas socialist so anything that is even mildly left wing is branded communist.

I think Tina Fey honestly had an impact on the election. Those parodies of Sarah Palin made her more of a hot button topic than she was, and they also made her appear unprepared for the office. I know quite a few people who were influenced not to vote for McCain based on Palin. I'd say that Tina Fey made a difference, albeit an indirect one, in the election.

Give it time, I bet she will be involved in something political before she leaves the spotlight. Look at Alec Baldwin, Al Franken, Jon Stewart, Colbert, Bill Maher, or Anti-Flag. All these people make a difference. They are influencing the way people think about things, this is important. Not everybody wants to be a politician. You may not give these people respect, but I do, they are using their fame to do good things. Just one person's opinion.

The main reason I love the 7" so much though is because it's such an improvement over Canino's work with Latterman, It showed so much more maturity, and a great deal more of depth. It just kind of feels like the new LP is kind of a step back, and it's just a little disappointing. I don't know, maybe a few more listens will help.

Our term is "guido." I just find it funny that half of them were mostly of Irish origin, talking about (gen) Italia and stuff. I remember getting ripped on for wearing a shirt with a picture of the Island of Ireland on it, while these guys ran around draped in the Italian flag. One of their last names was McKeever.

I think maybe racism against African Americans is getting SLIGHTLY better with the election of a black president, but racism is still hot and it will never die away. I mean, look how much Muslims/Arabs are being torn apart in this country, ganged up on, called terrorists, and no one is disagreeing or is afraid to back them for fear of also being labeled a terrorist or whatever. I found it pretty offensive when Obama was constantly being called Muslim like it was a terrible fucking word, and he had to argue that he wasn't, 'ew that's gross, I promise that I'm not one of those people.' Yeah, that's still some racism buddy.

In fairness, Islam is a religion. It doesn't change what you said, but hatred of muslims can't be defined as racism. There's a little bit more logic (twisted though it may be) behind hating someone for their religion than there is for hating someone for their race. It's all pretty shitty though.

Right, I guess I should have stuck with Middle Eastern. And at this point, I don't think it has much to do with Islam, because anyone that looks Middle Eastern gets singled out, even if they are far from. I mean, I remember hearing a news story about an Indian man here in Seattle, a cab driver who was beat close to death from his passenger who accused him of being a Muslim terrorist. And the man was Hindu. And while it got some coverage, it didn't get near enough as it should have.
