Infamous New York party-rocker Andrew WK joined Nardwuar the Human Serviette and his band the The Evaporators on stage this past Friday in Vancouver at the Mint Records XMas Party. WK performed "Party Hard", "She Is Beautiful" and "Ready To Die" with the band.
Nardwuar revealed to the crowd that Andrew WK was in town to record a split 7" with the Evaporators that will feature covers of 90s Toronto garage duo the Leather Uppers and Vancouver punk veterans the Subhumans. With that Subhumans lead singer Wimpy Roy joined the band for a rendition of "Oh Canaduh." The guests kept coming as ex-D.O.A. members Randy Rampage and Jon Card joined the crowded stage for a version of the Subhumans / D.O.A. tune "Fuck You." You can find a full account of the show and a picture over at the CBC Radio 3 Blog. The Evaporators released Gassy Jack and Other Tales in 2007. Mint Records (85 comments)

After all these years I am still undecided as to whether AWK is genius or crap. 5+ Replies

Yeah, I'm really excited for that split, especially interested to see what Leather Uppers song is done. Plus, that new Evaporators record is great!

The lyrics "Change my pitch up / Smack my bitch up" are repeated through the whole song, as can be heard in the sample below. The band defended the song, saying that the lyrics were being misinterpreted as misogynistic and the song actually meant "...doing anything intensely..." [1] The song led to a publicised disagreement at the 1998 Reading festival after the Beastie Boys asked the group not to play the track.[2][3] The vocals are sampled and altered from the Ultramagnetic MCs song "Give the Drummer Some". The original lyrics, performed by rapper Kool Keith, are: "Switch up change my pitch up / Smack my bitch up like a pimp".[4] Keith had previously been sampled by the Prodigy in the track "Out of Space" using his spoken vocal "I'll take your brain to another dimension", this time sampled from the Ultramagnetic track "Critical Beatdown" from the 1988 album of the same name, on Ne show rest of comment 5+ Replies

Upon the reqest of a friend, I listened to my first Passion Pit song today. Let me tell you how shitty it was. When I was young, my dad said to me "son, when you're my age, music is going to be fuck." He was so right. This band be fuck all over the place.
