The Ataris begin recording

The recently retooled Ataris have sent us an update on progress towards their next full length. The band will be entering Flying Blanket Recording in Mesa, AZ tomorrow. The studio is owned and operated by Bob Hoag from the band, Pollen. The band is aiming for a Summer 2009 release.

The band also recently promised that the new album would see return to their Blue Skies, Broken Hearts - Next 12 Exits.../End is Forever-era sound. Last year, they released Welcome the Night.

In related news, frontman Kris Roe is aiming to release a book of his photography around the same time as the album. Kris' photos include the cover of Blue Skies and others, you can check out some of them here..

Great effort, but I think this guy should really hang it up and take care of his kid already. Good songwriter though.

I get the impression that if "Welcome the Night" had been released under a different band name: it would have fared much better.

I had a track play from it the other day when I had my collection on shuffle, was seriously impressed by the song and I almost dropped my MP3 player when I saw who the song was by.

agreed. for what it is, it's an amazing record. that being said, i can't wait to hear them sound like THE ATARIS again!

Eh, I dunno. Usually when bands are "forced" back to a certain style by the fans, it comes across really uninspiring. My first thought is Sound the Alarm by saves the day...

I'm really excited for this, I love the Ataris. I would even be happy for another album that sounded on par with So Long, Astoria, because I actually liked that one (less than the prior ones of course, but still good).

I also agree that Welcome The Night would have been much better recieved had it been under a different name. In fact, I just put it under "Kris Roe" in my iPod.
